8BitDo’s Latest Gadget Lets You Play PS1, PS2 with Your PS5 DualSense

8BitDo has been putting out some seriously cool tech for years now, and its various controllers are lauded as some of the best 3rd-party offerings out there. For its next trick, the company might have just crafted its coolest gizmo yet: the 8BitDo Retro Reciever for PS is a dongle you can plug directly into a PS1 or PS2 that lets you use your DualShock 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge to play old favourites. At 24.

99 USD, it’s a steal, and it makes you wonder why Sony isn’t selling something like it (we imagine they might start in the future). For retro enthusiasts, it seems like a dream come true and should cut down on the clutter of having multiple controllers around. What do you think of 8BitDo’s latest, the Retro Receiver for PS ? Do you have a functional PS1 and/or PS2 handy to make use of such a device? Let us know in the comments section below.

While neat and all where exactly are you gonna get a ps1 and 2 that doesn’t have rotting tech? PlayStation Network is more likely to go down than PS1/PS2 consoles. Of course I have PS2. This looks like “must have” for me.

And I just bought a retro fighters Defender for use with the PS2 because my dog keeps tripping on the cable 🤦. Still it also works with PSX and PS3 and it’s better than the DualShock 3. @Nepp67 lol what.

I play ps2 all the time. Ps2 slims were made up until the early 2010s. You can get working PS2s for bugger all on places like Facebook marketplace.

Also the retro scene is nuts these days. Plus, i have a working ps1 from 97 and a psone from 2000 Recently picked up a Rad2x HDMI adapter for my PS2 and I can highly recommend. Playing Soul Reaver 2 at the moment.

Ace — finding working DualShock 1-3s these days is harder than rocking horse poop. @Geep I was trying to play on an Xbox(To go and play Silent Hill 4) I bought a while back only for the disc tray to crap out on me. That’s what’s been holding me back from buying a retro system but I’ve been wanting to buy a retro ps2.

@Nepp67 that sucks. Yeah, some systems do fail. Especially those that weren’t looked after.

I had a phat PS2 fail, but I find the slims are pretty reliable. Ah man, I have been playing a lot of PS3 lately and now I finally discover that the DualSense works with that console too already since the PS5 came out, the Sixaxis controller sucks so much, I can’t believe that was the standard for like 7 years. cool, if I ever dust off my PS1 and PS2 I will consider this.

Not exactly a Retro-Enthusiast dream, since Retro-Enthusiast like to have original hardware. But for anyone else (like me) a great device! Don’t own a PS1 (apart from PS3 b/c) or PS2 these days bur could do with a widget to allow DS4s to be used on the PS3 (if you’re listening 8BitDo) That said, I do have 3 fully working original DS3 controllers to use (the DS4 is just much more comfortable than the DS3 or DS5) @Nepp67 just thinking, Silent Hill 4 is playable on 360 if you have one. I remember it has some odd graphical glitches here and there, but nothing game breaking That’s cool I guess, but I’d rather have one console that consolidates all those games rather than one controller and five consoles under my TV! Imagine Playstation had the desire and nous to make every game for PS1-PS5 available to play on a PS5.

Now THAT would be something! It’s cool to see more third party tech become backwards compatible. I use a nice blue retro fighters controller for my PS2 but could use this as a backup for my PS1 in the other room. .
