Other people starting March behind bars include paedophiles, thugs and drug dealers. Police work around the clock to catch dangerous offenders and hand them over to the courts to bring them to justice. Cambridgeshire Live has brought you a round up of all the criminals who have been jailed for a variety of crimes across the county.

Get more crime news from CambridgeshireLive straight to your inbox for free HERE Peter Jarvis Paedophile Peter Jarvis (Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Cambridge paedophile Peter Jarvis told police he was ‘disgusting’ after admitting he was a paedophile.

The 48-year-old sexually assaulted a teenage girl three times in 2022. He was arrested and initially denied the offence when interviewed. However he eventually admitted the offences before pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault on a girl.

Jarvis, of Sawston, Cambridge, was sentenced to four years in prison at a hearing at Huntingdon Law Courts on Tuesday (February 21). He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to run until further notice, which means he will be closely monitored by officers. Daniel Smith Daniel Smith threw a knife into a flower bed after being spotted with the weapon in Peterborough city centre. The 41-year-old was spotted by plain-clothed police officers acting suspiciously on North Street on Monday, February 20. He was seen trying to hand something to a woman when police spotted the handle of the weapon.

Smith then stepped towards the officers, who sprayed him with incapacitant spray in a bit to disarm him. At a hearing at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 21, he was sentenced to 44 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a knife in a public place. Read the full story here Jamie Smith Jamie Smith has been sentenced (Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Cambridge bicycle thief Jamie Smith has been banged up – and banned from touching vehicles without permission.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of bike theft and theft of an e-scooter at a hearing at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 17. Smith also pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop, two counts of theft, three counts of fraud and handling stolen goods and one count of criminal damage between July 2022 and January 2023. He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison at the hearing.

As well as the prison sentence he was also hit with a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). This prohibits him from carrying out certain activities. Read the full story here .

Karl Jones A thief who stole more than £500 worth of goods in Peterborough in less than one month has been jailed. Karl Jones, 32, targeted Next, in Brotherhood Retail Park, Walton, three weeks in a row, starting on January 16, when he stole a £200 light. On January 23, Jones stole another light worth £250 and the following week, several diffusers.

On February 8, he switched to TK Maxx, also at Brotherhood Retail Park, where he took jeans off their hangers and left the store without paying. Jones appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday (February 20) where he was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, and ordered to pay £540 in compensation, after pleading guilty to four counts of theft. Jesse Brown Jesse Brown was sentenced to eight years in prison (Image: Cambridgeshire Police) A Cambridgeshire man has been jailed after he launched a sudden and violent attack on two men he knew. Jesse Brown was drinking alcohol and rapping songs with a man on December 30, 2020 in a caravan in Meadow Lane, Willingham, when the first attack happened. The 36-year-old victim said Brown pulled out a knife and knuckleduster.

Cambridgeshire Police said there was seemingly no motive for the attack. At Cambridge Crown Court on Monday (February 20), Brown, of Meadow Road, Willingham, was sentenced to eight years in prison after previously pleading guilty to Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, making threats to kill and section 20 grievous bodily harm. Steven Roweth, 51, of Peatlings Lane, Leverington, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, became enraged when his partner received the text message from a friend on June 7. Roweth grabbed her by her hair and threw her to the floor of the property in Wisbech, before punching her to the face and strangling her. Roweth admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, non-fatal strangulation and intimidating a witness.

On Monday, at Peterborough Crown Court, he was jailed for two years and 10 months as well as being handed a restraining order. Read the full story here . Sonny Matthews Sonny Matthews was arrested in Cambridge following a 50 mile bike chase by officers (Image: Cambridgeshire Constabulary) A prolific thief has been jailed after police officers cycled more than 50 miles around Cambridge to find him.

Sonny Matthews, 33, of Thoday Street, Cambridge, offences included common assault, shop theft, bike theft, possession of a knife, and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). He had stolen goods worth more than £1,000 between February 2022 and 2023. Matthews was sentenced to a year and four weeks in prison at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court.

He had pleaded guilty to common assault, eight breaches of a CBO, and 12 counts of theft. His CBO, which remains in place until October 2024, states he must not enter any Tesco, Co-Op or Sainsbury’s within the boundaries of the M11, A14, or A11 in Cambridge. To read the full story click here Joseph Kariuki Joseph Kariuki has been jailed for two years (Image: Cambridgeshire Constabulary) A Peterborough drug dealer caught with heroin, crack cocaine, and nitrous oxide canisters has been jailed.

Joseph Kariuki, 30, was arrested after police officers saw an incriminating text on his “burner” phone. Police were on patrol in Fletton High Street on the evening of October 26 last year when they saw a man acting suspiciously on the street corner. They watched him from a distance before he disappeared around the corner, returning in a green Jaguar driven by Kariuki.

Officers went over to speak with the men as Kariuki got out of the car and a “burner” mobile phone fell on the ground. An officer picked up the phone as it received a message saying “batch incoming”. Kariuki appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday, February 2, where he was sentenced to two years in prison.

He had previously admitted possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, and possession with intent to supply a psychoactive substance (nitrous oxide). To rea the full story click here Tomasz Zylinski A drink driver has been jailed for eight years after causing a head-on collision which killed one man and left three seriously injured. Tomasz Zylinski, 48, had been driving his Mercedes Vito along the A47 near to Thorney Toll, reportedly “stinking of alcohol”, when he ploughed into a Mercedes A35 at about 11.

50pm on June 11, 2022. The Mercedes A53 was being driven by Shahrose Nawaz, 29, from Crawley, West Sussex, who died at the scene. The front passenger, 36, spent several weeks in an induced coma after suffering a ruptured aorta and two rear passengers, in their early 20s, sustained serious injuries.

In the moments after the collision, Zylinski, of Chapel Street, March, tried to restart his engine and was described by a witness as “stinking of alcohol”. He failed a breath test and was more than three times the legal limit. A police investigation found Zylinksi had been driving towards Wisbech when he veered into the oncoming carriageway, causing the fatal crash.

Several motorists recalled seeing Zylinski driving erratically in the minutes leading up to the collision. One man urged his girlfriend, who was driving behind Zylinski’s van, to keep back a good distance as he feared they were following a drink-driver. He then saw Zylinski speed up and narrowly avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle before hitting Mr Nawaz’s car.

At Cambridge Crown Court Zylinski pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving a vehicle while above legal limit. He was jailed and disqualified from driving for eight years and 64 months and ordered to undergo an extended driving test when his ban comes to an end. To read the full story click here Michael White Custody photo of Michael White who has been sentenced to life in prison and must serve a minimum of 11 years and nine months (Image: Cambridgeshire Constabulary) A man who stabbed one victim in the neck and kidnapped another has been handed a life sentence in prison.

Michael White who has been described as a “dangerous man” also bit off a chunk of a 15-year-old’s ear. On April 16, 2022 at around 4am, White, 37 used a kitchen knife to stab his 32-year-old victim in the neck in Dorset Close, Wyton, Cambridgeshire. White left his victim covered in blood and made his way to an associate’s home in the village to wash his clothes, the knife and his mobile phone.

Following the attack, the victim sought help by banging on the doors of nearby properties. He was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for emergency lifesaving surgery after suffering an arterial bleed, he also had multiple slash wounds to his hands and face. Previous to this incident, in May 2020, White launched an unprovoked attack on a 15-year-old boy in Tamar Close, biting off a chunk of his ear.

On Monday. At Cambridge Crown Court White was sentenced to life in prison and must serve a minimum of 11 years and nine months. He pleaded guilty to kidnap, wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and grievous bodily harm.

To read the full story click here Ben Loasby A man has been jailed after sexually assaulting a woman in Peterborough more than 20 years ago. Due to the law at the time he was charged with indecent assault but it would now be classified as rape. In the early 2000s, Ben Loasby, 43, from Wisbech attacked the woman in his car.

In 2019, the victim reported what happened to the police and Loasby was interviewed. Loasby denied the offence but was found guilty in December following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court. At the same court, Ben Loasby, of The Lovells, Wisbech, was jailed for four and a half years.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison at a hearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday, February 23. To read the full story click here Adam Barratt Robber Adam Barratt shoved an elderly woman to the ground after targeting her on a Cambridgeshire street.

The 42-year-old grabbed the victim’s handbag after she left Barclays Bank on High Street, Fletton, Peterborough. Her husband came to her aid but Barratt knocked him to the floor by running into him. The robber was detained shortly afterwards by members of the public, who flagged down police.

Barratt, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery and actual bodily harm. At a hearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday he was sentenced to five years and four months in prison.
