Apple Loop is here to remind you of a few of the very many discussions that have happened around Apple over the last seven days ( and you can read my weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes ). The iPhone 15’s 5G Battle It might not be the sexiest part of the package, but without the 5G modem, your iPhone’s connectivity is going to be little better than the retired iPod Touch. Apple has been using Qualcomm of late, although it is working on its own 5G modem.

Widely expected to be ready for the iPhone 15, Qualcomm itself has indicated that its modem will be powering the vast majority of iPhone 15 models: “Qualcomm told investors that it will continue to supply the “vast majority” of modem chips for Apple’s iPhone 15 range in 2023. The company said it had previously expected to provide just 20% of iPhone 5G modems by this time, given Apple’s ambitious roadmap for its own 5G modems. ” ( Forbes ).

Alas, while we might see the launch of the Mac Pro running Apple Silicon, the next-gen laptops look to be pushed back to 2023: “Apple has had November releases for Macs before, quite often, and many rumors had pointed to the possibility of the same for these refreshed MacBook Pros… [the supply] chain is currently operating to be on track for a 2023 launch, instead of a November or late 2022 launch.

” ( iMore ). iPad’s Keyboard Of Choice Reviewed As well as the new iPad Pro ( reviewed here on Forbes ), Apple’s family of “don’t call them tablets” tablets saw the iPad pick up a new Magic Keyboard Folio Case, offering both a case and a detachable computer for $249. Juli Clover reviews the new accessory: “Someone who wants to use the 10th-generation iPad for composing emails, browsing the web, and other writing tasks may want to invest in the keyboard as it does turn the iPad into a versatile Mac-like machine that’s ideal for working at home or on the go.

There are cheaper keyboards on the market, but Apple has built a lot of functionality into the Magic Keyboard Folio, which will make it worth the cost for some users. ” ( MacRumors ). The Day The Music Wouldn’t Die It still brings some music lovers out in a cold sweat, but Bono – thanks to his newly published memoir – has reminded everyone of the day when U2’s Songs Of Innocence album appeared in everyone’s iTunes catalog… and remained there no matter how many times you tried to delete it: “Cook eventually came around and agreed to put a copy of the album in everyones’ iTunes account.

People hated it, the album wasn’t great, Bono apologized, and Apple eventually released a special tool to allow people to remove it. Apple Store staff in Glasgow have been successful in their quest to unionize. This is expected to be the first of the Scottish stores to follow the path set up Apple Stores in the United States, France and Sweden: “In what was called a “historic moment” by union representatives, Glasgow’s Buchanan Street branch of the American tech giant will now be unionised after workers voted overwhelmingly to be represented by GMB Scotland. After negotiations, Apple agreed to voluntary recognition ballot after a large number of its Glasgow workers joined the GMB.
