S.

And while it’s unlikely Biden’s efforts will discover little green men from Mars, the new rules will hopefully give the U. S. military guidance that’s previously been lacking about potential threats over American airspace.

“We are going to keep our allies and Congress contemporaneously informed,” President Biden said in a prepared speech on Thursday afternoon. Biden was peppered with questions after his prepared remarks and signaled he may provide an answer, before apparently changing his mind and turning his back to walk out. Biden’s announcement was underwhelming, to say the least.

The U. S. and Canada have shot down four unidentified flying objects in the past two weeks, including a Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean on Feb.

4 . The balloon was first spotted by civilians in Montana before it crossed the entire U. S.

, finally getting shot down once it was over water. We now know that Chinese spy balloon had a self-destruct capability that was never utilized, according to a report late Wednesday by the New York Times . China has previously denied the balloon that flew over the U.

S. was a spy balloon, saying it was just a weather balloon. China has also claimed the U.

S. has sent balloons into its airspace 10 times since the start of 2022 . The three other objects were shot down in northern Alaska , in Canada’s Yukon , and over Lake Huron near Michigan.

But the balloons are likely tied to scientific or research purposes, based on what we know so far, according to the White House. President Biden has received criticism from both sides of the aisle for his reaction to the Chinese spy balloon, but some Republicans have alleged former president Donald Trump would never have allowed such a balloon to fly over the U.

S. But as it turns out, several balloons flew over the U. S.

during Trump’s tenure, including balloons over sensitive military sites in California and Virginia . But Trump isn’t in power anymore and Biden needs to provide more information to the American public about what’s going on, especially if the three latest objects shot out of the sky were operated by private entities that posed no threat to U.
