BJP plans layered campaign in runup to Lok Sabha election

Synopsis ET had earlier reported that the party has identified 160 weak Lok Sabha seats and divided it into 40 clusters. Modi is scheduled to address a minimum of one rally in each of the clusters. Sources told ET that the number of Modi rallies could go up to 50 to 60.

A year before the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has begun a multi-layered campaign and is addressing several campaign issues simultaneously. The party had recently formed a three-member committee to plan different programmes for the coming year. Three general secretaries — Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde and Tarun Chug — are the panel members.

On Saturday, the committee held a meeting at the residence of Union home minister Amit Shah . BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh and Union minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar were also present at the meeting. ET had earlier reported that the party has identified 160 weak Lok Sabha seats and divided it into 40 clusters.

Modi is scheduled to address a minimum of one rally in each of the clusters. Sources told ET that the number of Modi rallies could go up to 50 to 60. The focus would be on non-BJP ruled states where the PM will inaugurate development projects followed by a political rally.

Modi has already addressed almost a dozen rallies in different states since the plan was unveiled. The remaining rallies will be completed by the year end. Along with Modi, Shah and BJP president JP Nadda are already touring the 160 Lok Sabha seats.

April 6 is BJP’s foundation day, and the party wants to start a large-scale outreach programme from April 6 till May 30, when the Modi government completes nine years in office. The different morchas of the BJP are also geared up to start a voter outreach programme. The BJP SC Morcha will run a special SC outreach programme from April 14, The BJP Mahila Morcha has started a ‘one crore selfie with women beneficiaries’ programme from February 27.
