The incident occurred on the Pacific Highway on the NSW mid-north coast after multiple shots were fired in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Between 1. 40am and 5. 40am, four separate incidents of gunfire were reported in multiple locations across Manning Great Lakes and several areas near Kempsey.

NSW Police have seized a dark black Mercedes ute which was seen on the highway at the time of the alleged incident. Members of a tactical unit and the dog squad had been searching for the vehicle earlier near the Wayne Park area at Port Macquarie, with the ute found nearby a short time later. Police are still looking for an Aboriginal man who is believed to have been the driver of the ute aged between 25 to 35 years of age with a slim build.

The man was last seen wearing a dark-coloured baseball cap and a hoodie and was also seen wearing a backpack and a duffle bag. Authorities say he could be travelling with another man who is wearing a white top and a dog that has described of being a brown and white colour. NSW police are hunting for the occupants of a dark Mercedes ute (pictured) after multiple gunshots were allegedly fired from the vehicle in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The car was seen travelling along the Pacific Highway on the NSW mid-north coast At least two people are believed to be involved in the incident. NSW Police acting Assistant Commissioner Scott Tanner urged anyone who comes across any of the occupants of the vehicle to contact police. ‘We would ask that the community do not approach any of those persons, but to contact us straight away,’ Assistant Commissioner Tanner told reporters.

Police said the body of a man was found at a home on Fernbank Creek Road on Thursday morning near the Pacific Highway following a welfare check. The gunshots were allegedly fired from the Mercedes ute and targeted at other vehicles that were travelling near Kundabung, north of Port Macquarie and south towards Coolongolook. As police tried to stop the ute earlier on Fernbank Creek Road, gunshots grazed a male motorist after a shot was fired at the police vehicle.

The male victim was attended to by paramedics before he was released a short time later. There is believed to be no link between the victims and the alleged shooters. NSW Police have confirmed a body was found at a home near the Pacific Highway on Thursday morning after officers conducted a welfare check The body has also not been linked to the alleged shootings that took place.

Police are still working to identify the alleged shooter and the firearms that were involved in the incident as investigations remain ongoing. Multiple crime scenes have been established along regions near Manning Great Lakes and Kempsey. More to come.
