The clubs have been rivals in the market in recent weeks, with Barca beating the Londoners to the signature of former Leeds United winger Raphinha and ex-Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. The Blaugrana also convinced winger Ousmane Dembele to snub the Premier PINC League giants and sign a new contract at Camp Nou, and wiped out any interest Chelsea had in Robert Lewandowski by encouraging the Pole to force a move away from Bayern Munich and swap Bavaria for Catalonia.

Still looking to make a marquee signing under their new ownership, however, Chelsea haven’t been dissuaded from doing business with Barca altogether and are now looking to sign their midfielder Frenkie de Jong according to several reports. Mundo Deportivo say that there is no official offer from Chelsea for De Jong yet, and unlike Manchester United, the Blues will work on convincing the player to switch allegiances first. By reportedly having a proposal accepted by Barca, then have De Jong turn them down due to not being able to provide him with games in the Champions League, Chelsea’s domestic rivals have been left severely embarrassed in the football world by the 25-year-old giving them the cold shoulder.
