Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Cyberpunk 2077 CDPR Cyberpunk 2077 has hit a milestone that is beyond unusual for a single player game nearly two years into release. After hovering around 12-15,000 daily concurrent players on Steam for a long while, Cyberpunk 2077 has now ascended to over 100,000 concurrents, 104,827 at the time I’m writing this. That’s not only a massive increase by itself, but it’s also more concurrent players than The Witcher 3 ever had on Steam, which was around 103,000.

If you’ve been following the news, you know what’s going on here. Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the hit Netflix anime, has driven mass interest in Cyberpunk 2077 itself, which has not only spent two years and 6+ major patches fixing itself and adding content, but it just had an Edgerunners-based patch this past week, and a half off sale on Steam, driving many fans to finally pull the trigger on purchasing the game. I thought we had already seen the peak of this last weekend, when the game shot up to 85,000 players last Sunday, usually the peak day of the week.

But all this week, the game has snowballed, picking up more and more players who see other people playing and now we have reached this second weekend where already, early Saturday morning, it’s past 100,000 players. I don’t know what the ultimate peak will be, but we may not likely know until tomorrow, given that I’d expect Sunday’s peak to be higher than today’s. Cyberpunk 2077 CDPR That may be the end of the surge, as I mean, it’s as single player game, and people will drift away eventually, but I already would not have expected to see the numbers rising this much for this long.

The fact that it was able to have this kind of surge with frankly, not even that big of a patch (just a few tiny missions and transmog), on the back of an anime series is a transmedia success story the likes of which we’ve never seen. Not even close.

Lest we forget the wild amount of hype the game had right at launch, it had over a million concurrent players on Steam in December 2020, though that dropped off sharply once people realized how much was wrong with the game, even if PC was the best platform to play it on. This surge is also happening on consoles as well. CDPR reports that a million players a day have been playing Cyberpunk 2077 all week, and that average is no doubt going up with each passing day.

I will keep this post updated with new highs as they come in, and I don’t think we’ve seen the new max just yet. Follow me on Twitter , YouTube , Facebook and Instagram . Subscribe to my free weekly content round-up newsletter, God Rolls .
