Golden Globes Winners and Losers: Full List

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines, because the 2024 awards season has officially begun after the winners were announced for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. And guess what? Now, if you’re unfamiliar with the Golden Globes, what makes the Globes unique is that they combine television and film. They also added two new categories this year, TV stand-up comedy performance and an award for cinematic and box office achievement. Host Jo Koy started things off by admitting he had gotten the gig only 10 days ago, and frankly, it showed.

But I cut him some slack because it’s one of the hardest hosting jobs in Hollywood. Not only do you have to entertain a room full of celebrities—who probably don’t have the best funny bone—but they’re also drinking. Not a good recipe.

But he did fine. The first plot twist of the night was Robert Downey Jr. winning Best Supporting Actor for .

The buzz going into Sunday night was fully for Charles Melton for , but in the end Hollywood golden boy Downey Jr. took him the Golden Globe. (And listen, I’m not a fan of “career” awards, you know the type, the award won by actors because it’s their time, but you have to admit it really is Robert Downey Jr.

‘s time. Just sayin. ) Did you notice how they got rid of showing scenes from the nominated films and shows? Clearly this was a way to save time, and honestly I’m here for it.

They also combined categories, so in many situations presenters are presenting for both the male and female categories. I like all of this. The big question of the night was how well will and would perform.

Well, had a great night, winning all the major awards including Best Picture – Drama, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor – Drama Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. , however, underperformed, losing Best Picture – Musical/Comedy to , Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy to Emma Stone for , Screenplay to , and Director to Christopher Nolan for . That said, it still won Best Original Song for the song “What Was I Made For?” and the new award of the night Cinematic & Box Office Achievement.

Before the Globes, it was a toss up as to who would take home Best Actor – Drama, Cillian Murphy for or for . Well, Murphy’s win puts him squarely in the lead for the Best Actor Oscar. Other than that, the night went off as expected, with , , and winning the major prizes throughout the night.

Oh wait, the other news to come out of the night had nothing to do with the Golden Globes Who was seen looking very close (and very together) in the audience? None other than and Kylie Jenner.
