All rights reserved. A solar eclipse is an indication that the Moon is almost at the place in its orbital path to intersect the ecliptic, the path of the Sun through our sky. So two weeks later when it’s a full Moon it will be in the exact right place to drift into Earth’s shadow in space.

When that happens it’s called a total lunar eclipse or “Blood Moon” because the lunar surface turns a reddish (actually more like orangey/copper) color. Full moon also known as “Hunter’s Moon” rises over New Jersey, United States on October 08, 2022. .

Most easily seen from western and central U. S. states as well as from the Pacific, Japan, Australia and Russia, during the event the full “Beaver Moon”—the second full Moon of fall—will turn a spectacular reddish color for 84 minutes.
