Infosys inks deal to acquire chip design firm InSemi

Infosys on Thursday said it will acquire semiconductor design and embedded services provider InSemi for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is expected to conclude in the current quarter, India’s second-largest IT company said in a statement. It will strengthen Infosys’ engineering R&D capabilities and help provide comprehensive end-to-end product development for clients as semiconductors are a key piece in the technology driving growth in AI (artificial intelligence), 5G, quantum technology, internet of things (IoT), smart devices, and other technologies, the company said.

Infosys is strong in engineering services and semiconductors is a $500 billion opportunity, said Nilanjan Roy, outgoing CFO of the company. Advt Further, the partnership with InSemi will help accelerate Infosys’ chip-to-cloud strategy by bringing in niche design skills at scale and complement its existing investments in AI and automation platforms and industry partnerships. Founded in 2013, Bengaluru-based InSemi offers expertise across electronic design, platform design, automation, embedded, and software technologies.

It has over 900 design specialists and serves clients globally across semiconductor, consumer electronics, automotive, and hi-tech industries. InSemi is a “strategic investment” to usher in a new wave of growth and leadership position in engineering R&D, said Dinesh R, executive VP and co-delivery head at Infosys. “Infosys has been a leader and at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge solutions across industries with engineering R&D services.

With the advent of AI, smart devices, 5G and beyond, electric vehicles, the demand for next-generation semiconductor design services integrated with our embedded systems creates a unique differentiator,” he said. InSemi cofounders Shreekanth Sampigethaya and Arup Dash said that over the last five years, the company has built a foundation with solid growth and design capabilities across the semiconductor value chain. “With Infosys as our catalyst, it creates a synergistic combination that allows us to scale and bring the power of AI and engineering R&D and next-generation technology to global clients, expanding across industry sectors,” they said in a joint statement.
