The ruling comes one day after a New York state judge ordered Trump and his two oldest adult children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, to testify as part of the probe.
It’s unclear if Trump plans to appeal the ruling from District Judge Brenda Sannes, who is an Obama administration appointee. Attorneys representing the former president and the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes , but Trump has repeatedly called the AG’s probe a “witch hunt. ” Key Background James’ office began its probe into Trump and his business empire in 2019, after former Trump attorney Michael Cohen told Congress the then-president and his business associates regularly misstated the value of assets.
The investigation is focused on whether the Trump Organization inflated the value of assets to lenders to secure loans, while undervaluing them to tax authorities to cut its tax bills. James’ investigation is a civil probe that could lead to a lawsuit against Trump, but the district attorneys of Manhattan and Westchester County, New York, are leading criminal probes into similar allegations of financial fraud.
