LABITCONF Chronicles, Day 1: Meeting People Is Easy. Football Is Everywhere

Remember LABITCONF 2022? It seems like so long ago, but it was just last weekend. That’s how fast the crypto world is moving at the moment. Not a second to rest.

Our LABITCONF chronicles started with this introduction and progressed with this boxing match. It’s time to write about the conference itself, and for that, we’re going to have to switch to the first person. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for impact.

LABITCONF 2022: The Ambiance I haven’t been to a conference in years. I used to be a fixture at Internet-focused conferences at the beginning of the century, and here I am again. Learning everything I can about the next industry destined to change the world as we know it.

In many ways, it already accomplished that. There’s much more to come, though. We’re so early.

The first thing I noticed is that there are not many flyers or printed material. And mind you, Argentina’s graphic industry is alive and kicking. On the streets, people hand you flyers every day and new posters go up by the hour.

Here at LABITCONF, all of that was replaced with QR codes. You had to fill out surveys to get this or that POP material. And it worked, as soon as a stand got something going, the lines immediately appeared.

Personally, I wasn’t interested in any of that. As a prophet told me recently, “rich people don’t fill out surveys. ” Neither was I particularly interested in the first-day panels.

I got there late and missed all of the bitcoin-related ones. A rumor was going around that the organizers put together a special panel to close off the day, and the lineup was insane. Good.

Something to look forward to. And I had the whole day to snoop around and check out the premises and the people. The place felt packed.

I met a few notable bitcoiners throughout the event and I was starstruck every single time. Why did I get so nervous? I’m a professional. I’ve thought long and hard about that question and the only answer I came up with was the lack of alcohol in my veins.

I didn’t want to drink during the afternoon, that’s not what I’m suggesting. I’m saying LABITCONF and every other conference should take place at night. Being a nite-owl, I was severely underslept.

I tried to mask the symptoms with coffee, but as the day advanced my battery died. I kept it pushing until the end, and I’m glad I did. The last panel exceeded all expectations.

It was a spectacle of the highest order. The food helped me get there. The food was good.

You can’t really screw up Argentinian beef. The art gallery also helped me get there. The art was good.

This year’s LABITCONF theme was The World Cup. Most of the stands hosted football-related activities. The live paintings were football-related.

Instead of jugglers, they had football players controlling the ball. Running around, there was a marching band of drummers characteristic of the “barras bravas. ” At the entrance, there was a giant trophy reminiscent of the actual World Cup.

It was the last thing I saw as I left the place, still in shock about the Jimmy Song and Samson Mow versus Vitalik panel. Featured Image: Football everywhere at LABITCONF | All images by Ed. Prospero | Charts by TradingView.
