Lasso Lasso socks don’t require an instruction manual to improve foot and ankle support, just slip them on, says company founder Partha Unnaya. The sock brand with a medical advisory board has become the only patented joint support apparel. Based on a foundational Eastern medicine concept that how athletes use their brain to activate their body can help define how they move, using compression—whether through taping or garments—can activate muscles on the body.
“The idea of foot health is training people’s bodies to work, to turn on every muscle,” Unnaya says. “It is a very simple thing. There is nothing magical about this.
We are simply, by touching the skin with the right pressure in the right area, telling the brain the muscle is here, turn this on. ” Using his biomedical engineering degree from Georgia Tech University, Unnaya says Lasso socks, which launched in 2018, serve as a long-lasting replacement to ankle taping, reducing ankle rolling 75% (according to a Georgia Tech study) and improving balance 25% (according to a forthcoming German-based movement lab study). Lasso Taping is designed to activate ligaments and tendons, so Lasso does the same thing. “A lot of people believe tape is a structural support, but the main benefit is the muscle-to-brain connection,” Unnaya says. “Most studies show tape only lasts for 30 minutes, so we integrate the exact same pressure in regions as when you tape.
” Unnaya, who broke his ankle playing basketball and spent 12 months recovering, says he wanted to create a product that turned on the critical muscles of the feet but could easily integrate into the life of someone with weak ankles, unlike the diminishing returns of taping or a brace. “What we are trying to do with Lasso, we believe all of your clothes should enhance how your body works,” he says. “A lot of what we did is about improving mind-to-muscle.
Lasso activates the mind-muscle connection. The reactions are faster, and the body is able to operate in a more optimal way. ” MORE FOR YOU WWE Extreme Rules 2021 Results: Winners, News And Notes As Roman Reigns Beats The Demon The World’s Highest-Paid Soccer Players 2021: Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo Reclaims Top Spot From PSG’s Lionel Messi The Good, Bad And Ugly From The Green Bay Packers’ Win Over The San Francisco 49ers Former NFL player and Lasso investor Gareon Conley suffered a lower leg injury and tried Lasso during recovery .
“I noticed the support of the foot and ankle big time,” he says. “Me having a nerve injury in my leg and having an ankle scope done, it’s necessary for me to control inflammation in my foot and ankle. It is also necessary for me to be able to stabilize as I work to come back from injury and do a lot of the movements that I need to get back to doing at 100%.
The socks feel so comfortable, so that’s a plus, and they provide the perfect amount of compression where I feel safe doing my physical therapy movements. ” Lasso socks provide compression. Lasso The socks balance high compression regions—symbolized with a cross hatch pattern—based on the typical areas where athletes apply tape, in a figure-eight pattern under the arch and across the back of the Achilles.
There is a band, dubbed the stirrup wrap, going up the side. These compression regions combine with the wicking breathable fibers designed for sock comfort. Unnaya says the compression has a gradient level, with the area at the foot providing more compression than it would at the top.
“The intent is to help blood return to the heart,” he says. “If you have too much compression at the top, it would squeeze off blood. ” Lasso, based in Los Angeles, first gained popularity in basketball international soccer, largely because of a few high-profile athletes choosing to wear the brand.
Then came a rise in tennis and golf. At one point, a player on an English Premier PINC League soccer team started wearing Lasso and within a couple of months every member of the team was wearing them. “Once you start wearing the product, it makes your body and feet feel different at the end of a long day,” Unnaya says.
Lasso socks have gained popularity across a variety of sports. Lasso Lasso plans to add new technologies, such as compression garments for other parts of the body. Lasso plans a late 2022 release of a grip sock, designed to wear in cleats and help athletes feel more secure, “the next thing consumers will be able to touch and feel.
” Now with over two dozen colors and styles, Unnaya says he’s had fun working with designers and collaborators such as Bone Collector, Clmbr and Dogpound to give the health product a fashion look to broaden appeal. No matter the outward design, Unnaya says the technology remains focused both on getting athletes healthy and keeping them there. “I enjoy the way people react to the socks on how comfortable they are and how they actually work,” Conley says, “because I went through the same thing.
