May 31 LIV Golf lands its first big-name American in former world No. 1 Dustin Johnson in a reported deal worth over $100 million – a major surprise given his earlier pledge to the PGA Tour – and causing him to lose several sponsors.

June 6 Mickelson officially joins LIV Golf for a deal worth $200 million, and former U. S. open champion Bryson DeChambeau commits to the new tour two days later.

June 9 Play begins at LIV Golf’s first-ever tournament, but it’s overshadowed by the PGA Tour’s suspension of its 17 members who signed with LIV Golf and future suspensions for anybody who plans to play in its events. What To Watch For If the Official World Golf Rankings’ board rejects LIV Golf’s application to include its events into the ranking calculations, likely keeping many LIV Golf players out of major tournaments and setting the stage for a massive legal dispute.

As it stands, LIV Golf tournaments are unlikely to meet the board’s criteria for inclusion, according to documents obtained by Golf Digest . Craig Seebald, antitrust lawyer at Vinson & Elkins, told Forbes last month a rejection of LIV Golf’s application could add fuel to the Justice Department’s antitrust case against the PGA Tour, as it may violate the Sherman Antitrust Act. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and directors of the majors are among those on the Official World Golf Rankings’ board.
