And if you do, new iPhone 15 leaks suggest you will be well rewarded. . .

Popular insider LeaksApplePro, has published a new subscription newsletter and gone big on iPhone 15 information in the first edition. It reveals design and performance increases, as well as the launch of an ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’. Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Apple First, the Ultra.

Those hoping for a new (and even higher-end) iPhone model, will be disappointed because LeaksApplePro claims this will be the new name for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This rebranding may come as a shock, but it actually makes a lot of sense: iPhone 15 iPhone 15 Plus iPhone 15 Pro iPhone 15 Ultra Each model is not only more distinct in this lineup, but it also aligns with the company’s chipset branding strategy where ‘Ultra’ is the flagship model: M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra. Yes, ‘Max’ also sits above ‘Pro’ but Ultra is cleaner than removing Pro from ‘Pro Max’ which sounds like a downgrade.

Maybe a standalone ‘iPhone Max’ will arrive in future generations but, for now, switching Pro Max to Ultra is the easiest way to clean up the range’s historically muddled branding. LeaksApplePro claims these will come in three main areas: the iPhone 14 Pro pill cutout and Dynamic Island will come to standard iPhone 15 models, the A17 chip will be iPhone 15 Pro/Ultra exclusive, and USB-C will replace the Lightning port on all iPhone 15 models but with a massive speed boost for Pros.

While A17 exclusivity has leaked before , this is the first time we have heard USB-C is coming to all iPhone 15 models (the leaker himself previously tipped it to be Pro-only ), with Pros operating at Thunderbolt 4 speeds for super fast data transfers. For context, Thunderbolt 4 operates at 40 gigabits per second (Gbps). That is the equivalent of 40,000 megabits per second.

All current iPhones (including the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max) operate at just 480Mbps. So it is a stratospheric upgrade. It is also a smart one.

Given the changes in EU charging laws , it makes little sense to fragment the new generation’s connectivity, while Thunderbolt 4 speeds can be marketed as a true ‘Pro’ differentiator. So while iPhone 14 problems continue to mount , the iPhone 15 range is looking better by the day. ___ Follow Gordon on Facebook More on Forbes MORE FROM FORBES Apple iOS 16 Release: Should You Upgrade?
