Blizzard Entertainment There’s been a ton of speculation about the identity of the next Overwatch 2 hero . We’ve known for a while that it will be a tank, and a male figure that already exists in the lore of Overwatch .

The new hero was finally revealed during the 2022 Overwatch League Grand Finals, but he’s not Mauga, as many people were expecting. He’s an omnic tank named Ramattra. In case you’re scratching your head to remember where you recognize him from, he’s the omnic you see Doomfist talking to at the end of the closing cinematic for the Storm Rising Archives mission.

He’s also the leader of Null Sector , the extremist group that has carried out several attacks in the world of Overwatch in a bid to obtain rights for omnics. Ramattra has some history with Zenyatta too. Blizzard spoke with some members of the media about the new hero and I’ll get into some of those details — including his sick abilities — in another post.

Team 4 revealed Ramattra’s backstory and origin video during Grand Finals, so let’s dig into those now. We’ll need to wait a bit longer to see gameplay and what Ramattra looks like in-game, so the origin story video and character art will have to do for now. Here’s what Blizzard has revealed about Ramattra’s background: Ramattra’s story is complex and multifaceted, and his ultimate goal is to protect his people — but the cost of that goal is still to be determined.

His ideals weren’t far removed from his fellow Shambli monk, Zenyatta. However, Ramattra’s story is one of hardships, trauma, and a magnified view of humanity’s harsh realities.

Harmony was replaced by dissonance, and Ramattra began to approach his convictions from a more pragmatic angle — justifying any means necessary to defend his fellow omnics. As the leader of Null Sector, Ramattra boasts incredible support from his people, and he is primed to impose his philosophies on our world. That’s a pretty great backstory.

Ramattra’s addition to the lineup of playable heroes brings another faction into the fold beyond Overwatch and Talon. He’ll help push the lore of Overwatch forward. Oh, and he can transform into an alternate form.

I think there’s going to be a lot of fanfic around this hero. One more thing: Ramon Tikaram (who voiced Godrick in Elden Ring, fact fans) is Ramattra’s English voice actor. The French voice actor is Loïc Houdré .

MORE FROM FORBES How To Unlock Kiriko And Other New Heroes In ‘Overwatch 2’ By Kris Holt You’ll be able to play as Ramattra for the first time when Season 2 of Overwatch 2 goes live on December 6. To unlock him immediately, you’ll need to buy the premium Battle Pass for Season 2. Otherwise, you’ll have to grind to level 55 of the free Battle Pass before he’s available in Unranked and Competitive Play (that is, unless Blizzard makes it a little less difficult to obtain new heroes moving forward).
