Next wave of startups from India to be on deeptech, IP-based devices: MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar

The next wave of startups from India will be deeply focused on intellectual property-based devices and products, the minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said. These startups will work on deeptech technologies such as artificial intelligence , electronics, semiconductors, Web 3. 0 , and quantum computing , among other things where the core value will be intellectual property (IP) instead of a focus just on market and scale, Chandrasekhar said during a press conference on the National Startup Day.

ET had on January 8 reported that the next phase of ‘Startup India’ would focus on deep technology such as AI, semiconductors, and cybersecurity, among others. Advt The government is also likely to help eligible startups receive research and development support from global institutions, government officials had then said. The IT ministry may also embed in the upcoming amendment to the Information Technology rules explicit provisions prohibiting the distribution, uploading or sharing of deep-fake content if the internet and social media intermediaries fail to follow the advisories sent on the issue, Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday.

“We will wait for the compliance of the advisory. If we find that there is still non-compliance or partial compliance, we will follow it up with new rules, which we are now going to do,” he said. The government is currently looking at two proposals to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit, four proposals to set up outsourced assembly and testing units, and three proposals to set up compound semiconductor chip fabrication units, he said.
