Emma Clarke, 39, formerly of Rhyl, North Wales, drove off ‘at speed’ when a policewoman reached through the driver’s window of her car to grab the keys. Clarke’s escapade saw the officer reach speeds of 97mph in a bid to catch up with her and only ended when she came to dead end.

Today, Clarke appeared at Mold Crown Court and showed no emotion as she was jailed for her actions on November 14 last year. Clarke pleaded guilty to failing to provide blood sample and possessing cocaine, after twice failing to attend court for previous hearings. ‘You have a disregard for orders of the court and the law generally. ‘You have minimised your actions with regard to the police officers, in particular trying to put back some blame on them. ‘ Clarke, now living in Halesowen, West Midlands, was sacked over the offences and looked set to lose her accommodation before today’s immediate jail term was imposed.

The former nurse was also banned from driving for two years and eight months, as Judge Saffman said there had been ‘substantial risk of serious harm’ to the officers. Police were alerted on November 14 last year, when neighbours reported that a car had reversed into the driveway of an elderly resident of Llandudno and was behaving ‘suspiciously. ‘ Prosecutor Elen Owen said that when officers arrived, Clarke refused to get out of a black Audi and appeared to pretend to be asleep.

Ms Owen said that when PC Siwan Huws tried to reach into the car to take her keys, Clarke sped off – narrowly missing serious injury to the sergeant whose arm was still in the vehicle. Today, Clarke appeared at Mold Crown Court and showed no emotion as she was jailed for her actions on November 14 last year Clarke’s Audi trampled over a garden and dodged two police cars as she headed for Llandudno Junction. A pursuing police vehicle reached 97mph as an officer tried to catch up with her.

Clarke blasted her accelerator well beyond the 60mph limit and even went through built-up streets. The pursuit ended when the Audi turned into a dead end. Cocaine was in the defendant’s car and a roadside test showed she was positive for the drug It was revealed Clarke had since been banned by magistrates for drug-driving in December.

Defence barrister Simon Mintz accepted the police footage was ‘shocking’ but told the court that the roads were quiet as it was 11. 45pm at night. He added that Clarke had held down a responsible job as a lead nurse, which she had now lost.

‘You could have caused serious injury to officers,’ the judge said to Clarke, who attempted to blame police, saying she ‘didn’t feel safe’.
