As the Cowboys head into the trade deadline, they do so sporting a 6-2 record following their 49-29 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 8. Dallas will comfortably enter their bye week with the second-best record in the NFC and slotted as the conference’s top wild card team.

If there ever was the perfect time for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys to make a major move, it’s now. This is the best this franchise has looked in years. While the Philadelphia Eagles are clearly the team to beat in the NFC, Dallas has emerged as one of the few consistent threats in the conference, with previous contenders — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers — all declining this season.

Those three aforementioned teams were the most popular rumored landing spots for Beckham, but they all currently stand at 3-5 at the midway point of the season. Not only are all of those teams struggling, they’re all lacking in multiple areas. Adding Beckham won’t result in any sort of “quick fix” for any of those teams.

On the other hand, joining the Cowboys gives Beckham the opportunity to play the role that he did last season for the Rams — be the missing piece for a team desperately looking to get over the hump. Beckham will only play for a Super Bowl contender and the Cowboys have emerged as his best possible option. Cowboys executive Stephen Jones indicated following the team’s win over the Bears that they’re open to signing a receiver to bolster their receiving corps.

Noah will be back.

We got, of course, James [Washington; on injured reserve, close to returning], and just see what happens. And then there’s some guys that don’t belong to anybody that are out there. ” Jones then made sure to clarify that he wasn’t specifically referencing Beckham.

“I didn’t say that,” Jones said. Right . It’s clear the Cowboys are one of the better teams in the NFC.

But perhaps their biggest weakness is at receiver, where they’re lacking an explosive playmaker outside of CeeDee Lamb. Michael Gallup isn’t the same receiver as he recovers from ACL surgery, James Washington continues to be out due to a Jones fracture injury and rookie Jalen Tolbert is a non-factor as he continues to struggle to just get on the field. As solid as Noah Brown has been, Dallas isn’t winning a Super Bowl with Noah Brown as its No.

2 wide receiver. The Cowboys succeed by dominating in the run game and limiting their turnovers. That formula works just fine in the regular season, but you need a playmaker to create big plays during pivotal moments in close games in the postseason.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Mike Fisher following their win over the Bears, team owner Jerry Jones also revealed interest in adding a receiver at the trade deadline. “We’ll just see . .

. If it’s right, we’ll do something,” said Jones. He also made sure to stress that if the right deal is there, the Cowboys will be aggressive.

“We don’t have an area on our team that makes me desperate,” said Jones. “But I’m willing to do it – and I’ll give up future currency to get it done. We are not afraid of taking that risk.

” The Cowboys are actually in good shape to signing Beckham. They have roughly $6. 3 million in available cap space , meaning the Packers are the only other possible suitor for Beckham that possesses a similar amount of cap space.

For perspective, Beckham played on $1. 250 million deal with the Rams when he signed with the team in November of last season. There’s no need for the Cowboys to do that.

By signing Beckham — who caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl LVI and caught nine passes for 113 yards in the NFC Championship win — you save your draft capital while also adding the best possible receiver on the market. In a conference that is at its weakest point in years — only the Eagles and Minnesota Vikings have better records than the Cowboys — now is the perfect time for Dallas to capitalize on its objective of winning a Super Bowl. There’s no better way of doing that by making a splash with the signing of Beckham.
