What have changed, however, are the innovative ways that OSRS content creators are telling stories within the game. Whether it’s completing all the game’s quests in their original order of release , or locking a character in the game’s barren swamp region , the RuneScape community has no shortage of fascinating series to choose from — and C Engineer’s latest series is no exception.

The Swedish YouTuber’s series took one of the game’s most challenging account types, an “ironman” character which prohibits a player from trading with others, and vowed to only play on Player versus Player (PvP) Worlds. Not only does this mean C Engineer had to grind for every piece of equipment by killing thousands of monsters himself, other players could attack his character at any time to steal his hard-earned items. If that wasn’t enough, C Engineer offered a bounty to the first player who killed him, further hindering his in-game progress by forcing him to constantly be on alert for marauding bounty hunters and teleporting away.

C Engineer even provided his in-game name, allowing players to track when he logs in and out. The series started in March 2021 with a brand-new account and a 50 million gold piece (gp) bounty. Sixteen months later, and C Engineer is hunting for late-game gear and offering a crowdfunded 16 billion gp bounty to his killer.

; Brain Drain Antidote; Great Wealth Transfer Trouble As a frame of reference, the most expensive item in the game , only obtainable by completing rare and difficult in-game treasure hunts, costs about 2. 1 billion gp, and that rune platebody that you spent your entire childhood chasing costs a mere 40,000 gp. Of course, this absurd bounty (and its accompanying infamy) was too hard to resist for PvPers.

C Engineer had a number of close calls throughout the series — watch any video of this project and you’ll see the veteran player dodge dozens of attacks from desperate bounty hunters, sometimes escaping with just a few hitpoints to spare. C Engineer’s luck changed earlier this week when dedicated PKer Westham and his team finally killed their elusive target, claiming the 16 billion gp bounty, and ending the PvP Ironman series after 32 videos. In his video, Westham shows off his team’s lookout system for C Engineer, and eventually catches him boarding a ship to Zulrah, a popular boss for late-game players to fight for unique weapon drops.

The fight begins with Westham’s team casting a “teleblock” spell on C Engineer, preventing him from making a quick getaway using teleportation. The victim frantically attempts to throw off his attackers by crossing the gangplank to and from the ship multiple times. He doesn’t stand a chance fighting back against the group, but if he avoids attacks for ten seconds, he can log out of the game and escape.

Unfortunately for him, the attackers catch up and ultimately deal 64 damage (roughly 75% of his total health) in a single hit to earn the kill and the largest bounty in RuneScape history. The videos of this fight from both perspectives are worth a watch. C Engineer’s video puts a great cap on the entire series, which combines game knowledge, creative training methods, and even lessons on Swedish culture.

And of course, Westham’s video captures the excitement of hunting down this bounty and finally doing what hundreds of others could not. In the end, it was C Engineer’s dedication to progressing and building his account that killed him. Instead of training non-combat skills in isolation and logging out whenever he encountered another player, he continued his pursuit of the next great piece of gear by fighting Zulrah, knowing that it could leave him exposed.
