Ruark Ruark Audio is a family-owned audio business making elegant audio equipment since 1985. I bought myself a Ruark R4 because I liked it so much. I still use it every day and it looks as good now as the day I bought it.

Now Ruark is launching an updated version of its R2 music system aimed at people who want music without the fuss. The all-new R2 brings one of the company’s longest-established models up to date while retaining many key features that have made it a popular choice since it was first launched in 2007. The most apparent change from its predecessors is the R2 Mk4’s slimmer footprint.

The elegant new proportions of the device mean the system can be placed almost anywhere in the home and it’s an ideal size for putting on a windowsill or bookshelf. The appearance of R2 is simple and yet it’s stunning in its simplicity. The enclosure features precise lines and soft contours.

Combined with the R2’s slatted wood grille, the effect creates a timeless and retro look that’s still modern. Along with its bonded glass display and Ruark’s trademark RotoDial controller, the R2 looks unmistakably Ruark. The Ruark R2 Mk4 is also available in a Light Cream lacquer with Ash grille.

Oliver Perrott The R2 is a complete music system equipped with pre-sets and DAB+, FM and internet radio tuners. It directly supports major streaming services, including Spotify, Amazon Music and Deeze, and a high-quality Bluetooth receiver for playing other streaming services that are not built in such as TIDAL. The R2 also has USB-C charging and playback port, switchable auxiliary line input, plus a headphone jack for private listening. The UNDOK app can be used to control the R2 remotely or there’s a compact remote available as an optional extra. The color LCD shows time, alarm and program information, including radio station and album artwork.

The display also auto-adjusts to suit the ambient light levels in the room. Ruark has used a linear amplifier in the R2, which drives the company’s proprietary NS+ drivers. At the same time, adaptive equalization provides and tonal balance for a wide range of music and spoken-word content.
