Joshua Cooper, 13, will undergo major surgery on Thursday after he was hit by a blue Ford Falcon sedan which ran a red light and failed to stop in St Albans in Melbourne ‘s north-west. The teen had the green light to cross busy Main Road West at a pedestrian crossing shortly after 8.

30am on Wednesday. CCTV captured the horrifying moment Joshua was struck and knocked to the ground by the oncoming car, which didn’t stop. A harrowing photo shows the seriously injured teen lying in a hospital bed hooked up to machines and his left leg in a cast.

His distraught mother Isobella has demanded the driver turn themselves in and shared a powerful message telling them to ‘face the consequences’. Joshua Cooper is in a serious but stable condition in Sunshine Hospital after a hit and run Isobella fought back tears as she gave an update on Joshua’s condition. ‘It’s very traumatic, it’s hit him very hard,’ Ms Cooper told Sunrise on Thursday.

‘He’s been very worried and very stressed. But he’s doing well under all the circumstances. ‘ Joshua was on his way to school at the time of the hit-and-run.

‘He was going across the road – the light was green,’ his mum added. ‘Traffic was congested on the first side but he got over halfway and the car hit him. ‘They swerved.

They know they hit him and just drove away and left him. ‘ Joshua’s mum Isobella (pictured) urged the driver to come forward and face the consequences Ms Cooper urged the driver to come forward. ‘I know they ran a red light and they might have been scared, but they just left my son on the ground and I really want them to turn themselves in,’ she said.

‘They need to face the consequences because my son has to face the consequences. ‘He’s having a big surgery today and from that surgery, we can then see how he will go and how this will impact his life, or if he can make a great recovery. ‘We just hope for the best.

‘ Police also issued a public appeal for the driver to come forward as investigations continue. Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage, CCTV or more information should call Crime Stoppers.
