Got it! Jul 10, 2022, 08:14am EDT | Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apex Legends Respawn Apex Legends is essentially following the same track as the early successful years of Overwatch, and EA and Respawn seem determined to not let the same eventual fate befall their game. The battle royale has turned into a significant cash generator, and Respawn, busy as they are with things like Star Wars games, continues to make it a top priority. The news this week is that the Apex Legends “universe” may expand with a new, single player FPS titles.

This comes from a job listing that lists a role for am “Apex Universe FPS Incubation title. ” Other listings seem to indicate it will be single-player. It’s not a huge surprise that things might move in this direction, as Apex has toyed with single player story missions before this using its characters.

But what is surprising many fans is A) the studio returning to a single player campaign while B) not acknowledging this is in fact the “Titanfall” universe. It is not exactly rocket science as to why Apex Legends is trying to generate its own “universe” of games, even though it has very clear lore roots in the Titanfall series. It would not make a lot of sense to call this the “Titanfall universe” if they end up producing a game with…no Titans.

Of course, we all hope that they take single player lessons to heart from the incomparable Titanfall 2 campaign, but again, it’s not a huge shock they’re continuing to focus on Apex Legends as their main IP after the BR has been such as smash hit. Titanfall 2 Respawn MORE FOR YOU ‘Demon Slayer’ Season 2 Finally Has An Actual 2021 Release Date Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Not A Sure Thing, Says Director ‘Genshin Impact’ Still Refuses To Increase Anniversary Rewards, Despite Fan Outcry And yes, these are separate IP, despite sharing lore and existing in the same game universe. Apex Legends has a totally different name and exists in a totally different genre.

While granted, it’s a somewhat unique position in gaming, it’s like saying Jedi: Fallen Order and Force Unleashed are the same IP because they’re both in the Star Wars universe. Regardless, all of this sounds like quite good news to me, given that: The Apex Legends (sigh, slash Titanfall) universe is full of interesting characters that could indeed come together for a great single player FPS campaign We have already seen on incredible FPS campaign in this style in Titanfall 2, which is so good, it’s more or less an industry standard. Respawn is still actively making great single player games like the Fallen Order series Combine these three elements together and you could imagine a world where this project ends up being rather fantastic.

While I’d be somewhat worried about how it could be monetized on EA’s demands, I suppose we did not see them do anything crazy monetizing Fallen Order, so who knows. And yes, I’d still love to see Titanfall 3, someday. Never say never, even if Respawn has more or less already said never.
