Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The long-awaited Firefly Editions of ‘The Last of Us Part I’ have arrived battered and bruised. Naughty Dog / Sony You need to have a lot of love for a game to spend $100 on it, especially when it’s a remake or remaster. Yet devoted fans of The Last of Us who ordered The Last of Us Part I: Firefly Edition direct from Sony have had their fondness for the PS3 classic pushed to breaking point, thanks to the way they’ve been shipped.

Naughty Dog and T he Last of Us alike have been trending for all the wrong reasons over the last 24 hours thanks to the apparently abysmal handling of the collector’s edition of The Last of Us Part I , which dropped yesterday (September 2)–for some, their long-awaited copies look more like they were dropkicked. Arriving in a range of different packaging–in some cases padded envelopes, which I barely trust to carry plastic-cased games–the cardboard-boxed Firefly Edition landed in fans’ hands with various levels of damage, such as crushed corners, tears, broken seals, and water damage. In one case, following a lot of time spent with Sony’s customer support, writer Ainsley Bowden was offered 20% off any game in the PlayStation Store . Luckily, a lot of gamers managed to get their goods in perfect condition, but those who can’t get a fresh copy to replace their battered recent delivery may have to fork out a lot more than they hoped for. As is the way with anything we love these days, scalpers are having a field day on eBay , listing The Last of Us Part I: Firefly Edition for $400 or more.

If you missed out on The Last of Us Part I: Firefly Edition , it’s not bad value for money–there’s little surprise that so many people went for it. For $99. 99 (plus shipping and potentially questionable handling), it gives you: The Last of Us and its Left Behind prequel chapter for PS5; A limited-edition SteelBook display case; The Last of Us: American Dreams Comics #1-#4 with new cover art; and Early access to in-game items including: increased crafting and healing speed skills; 9mm reload speed and rifle clip capacity increase upgrades; explosive arrows gameplay modifier; dither punk filter and speedrun mode; and six weapon skins.
