Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin ‘SD Gundam Battle Alliance’ definitely has legs. Ollie Barder It’s been a few months since SD Gundam Battle Alliance was released, and after finishing the game there is a still a surprising amount of post-game content. Ignoring the DLC for a moment, although I will get onto that later, the main game has opened up quite a bit since its release.

With successive updates, you can now max out your character and mobile suit up to level 100. On the latter, you need to acquire 4th and 5th level parts to uncap the upgrades, all of which are suitably elusive and expensive. In order to get these parts, you have to unlock the EX Missions.

These only become available once you have completed every mission in the game on both Normal and Hard difficulties. Thankfully, this excludes the Chaos missions, as some of these can be quite tricky on Hard, but once all the regular missions are completed the EX Missions will become available. Apart from allowing access to upgrade parts, EX Missions offer you a lot of money, which makes maxing out each mobile suit pretty straightforward.

Furthermore, the higher experience level of the EX Missions is such that other characters will level up quickly, even whether they come on your mission or not. You also will need to re-appraise your Skills though, as I found that allowing your teammates to share in your health packs really helps on the hard missions.

The DLC is also pretty great, from Gundam AGE to SD Gundam and Moon Gundam , the missions and mobile suits available are really well done. You also get some decent cash on completing the DLC missions, which again helps with all the upgrading. The post-game also allows you to unlock all the mobile suits you missed out on the first time through.

Naturally, I reverted to my mainstay of the Hi-Nu Gundam (shown above), but to unlock it required the blueprints from a lengthy Chaos mission. Blueprints are also scattered across the game, with many of these split between various Chaos missions. Unlocking all the mobile suits is arguably one of the biggest undertakings once you finish the game, but they are always worth the effort as many of them have a unqiue array of powerful and interesting attacks.

While the game balancing is definitely an initial issue, the game is by no means impossible. Using parts equipped with abilities like Auto Guard is also a good starting point on the post-game content, but with extended play you will very quickly drop those kinds of parts in favor of attack boosts. As you will learn when enemies leave themselves open and how to read and block incoming attacks.

I definitely enjoyed the game on my initial playthrough when I reviewed it , but the post-game content in SD Gundam Battle Alliance has kept me engaged for a surprisingly long time.
