In Pictures via Getty Images The weekend is over and Monday has returned, but don’t despair: July 4th is tomorrow! For some of you, that means another day off. For others, perhaps you’re going to a parade, or in a parade! I always enjoyed parades as a kid because I liked it when people would throw candy at me. Now, I avoid parades like the plague.

Too many people! And it’s always hot. Fireworks are fun, however, though I doubt I’ll be going to them this year. Too many cars! I will be all peopled-out, in any case, as I’m doing the Downtown Mile Run that morning.

It’s part of a racing series I’m doing this summer—the second race, to be precise. I missed the first one because my neck was all out of joint, but I think I’m back to feeling good enough overall to run a simple mile Tuesday morning. I guess we’ll see.

For now, it’s Wordle time! How To Solve Today’s Wordle The Hint: Hospitality. The Clue: This word ends with a consonant. The Answer: .

. . Today’s Wordle Credit: Erik Kain Wordle Bot Analysis So the reason I started this Wordle out with the guess rogue is actually pretty simple.

I was writing about the reported remake of the video game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which is a wonderful game that’s mostly about being a pirate and sailing the high seas. I would have very much liked to use the word pirate as my opening guess, but that wasn’t an option. However, the direct sequel to this game is Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, so that was a good enough guess for me.

Turns out, it wasn’t half bad, leaving me with 87 remaining possible solutions. I was 99% sure, at this point, that I didn’t need any more vowels. I was also 99% sure that the ‘E’ would go in the 4th box.

So many words are structured that way. But some of them do use the letter ‘Y’ like money and honey and what better way to eliminate those words than a guess like nymph? This ended up being a very savvy guess, leaving me with only four words. To be honest, though, I only could think of two: hotel and hovel, both places where people take shelter.

I decided to go with the nicer of the two, and lucky I did! (Lucky it wasn’t one of the other two words Wordle Bot informed me of later: holed and hosed, good grief!) Today’s Score Not bad today. I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 points for tying Wordle Bot for a grand total of 1 point. Huzzah! Today’s Wordle Etymology The word “hotel” has an interesting etymology that traces its roots back to Latin.

The term originally comes from the French word “hôtel,” which meant a large townhouse or mansion. However, the French word itself derived from the Old French “hostel,” which referred to a place where travelers could seek lodging, rest, and refreshment. Can you solve today’s phrase? Play Now The Old French word “hostel” can be further traced back to the Latin word “hospitale,” which means a place of hospitality.

“Hospitale” is derived from the Latin word “hospes,” which means both “guest” and “host. ” This Latin term is also the root of other related words such as “hospitality” and “host. ” Over time, the meaning of the word “hôtel” shifted from referring to a large townhouse or mansion to indicating an establishment that provides accommodation and services to travelers.

Today, the word “hotel” is universally recognized and used in numerous languages to denote such establishments around the world. Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!
