The former wore a Viktor&Rolf white trench coat dress with a large “NO” written across the chest. This is the thirtieth-year celebration of the Dutch brand and they chose to tell their story through swimwear. The design duo created looks with written messages of hope on them.

Photo Credit: Viktor&Rolf Swimwear isn’t always synonymous with the autumn season, but Viktor&Rolf think otherwise. One-piece bathing suits, bikinis, and exaggerated swimwear with messages that read: “DREAM ON” and “I WISH YOU WELL. ” Large bows were not absent from the collection.

Photo Credit: Viktor&Rolf Large bows, sculpted corsets, satin trains, hooded capes, and ruffles add character and personality to the swimwear looks. The color palette of the collection is diverse from royal purple, to dandelion yellow, deep brown, burnt orange, fuchsia, black, and shades of pink. The headless mannequins are up to your own interpretation.

Photo Credit: Viktor&Rolf Known for their avant-garde style, they chose a unique way to tell the autumn-winter 2023-24 sartorial story with headless mannequins. One model walked out with a mannequin hoisted over her shoulders, another was totally surrounded by mannequins on all sides who seemed to be like leeches holding on for dear life. The tuxedo is a central theme in the collection.

Photo Credit: Viktor&Rolf The tuxedo wasn’t just for the mannequins, it plays a central role in the collection. Even the design duo entered the runway after the finale wearing nicely tailored tuxedos. Creating a tuxedo for the female silhouette, it stood out on the runway amongst a sea of swimwear.

The reasoning behind these mannequin visuals. Well, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren are leaving that up to you. But the topsy turvy looks are mesmerizing, even if some fashion viewers don’t see it as fashion.

One person commented on Instagram, “High fashion? Great designers would be ashamed to see these disasters, it’s not Haute Couture, it’s crazy ideas,” said one person. But whether you like it or love it, there is purpose to the collection. There are messages of positivity and boundaries, where they remind us that it’s ok to say no sometimes.

A collection open to interpretation, which is typical Viktor&Rolf, it leaves fashion connoisseurs guessing. But if you look closely there are some direct and clear takeaways. Follow me on Twitter or LinkedIn .
