Marshals Service, which specializes in finding wanted fugitives. Heraud and D. C.

Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith did not specify the potential location of Haynes, a 30-year-old Black man last seen with shoulder-length dreadlocks who escaped police custody at George Washington University Hospital on September 6. Law enforcement is offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to Haynes’ arrest.

Surprising Fact The cash reward offered by MPD is $5,000 more than what was posted for information leading to the arrest of Danelo Cavalcante—the since-detained convicted murderer who escaped from Chester County Prison on August 31 and led law enforcement on an extensive manhunt for 14 days. Key Background Haynes was able to escape from custody on September 6 while a police officer changed his handcuffs at GWU Hospital, where he was taken after complaining about a preexisting ankle injury while being processed in connection with a murder of a Gainesville, Virginia man. His escape prompted a shelter-in-place order at GWU and was met with a search from federal and local authorities.

MPD said about a week after Haynes’ escape it received “numerous reports of possible sightings” and was dedicating resources to each tip. Smith has said Haynes has ties to Stafford County, Fauquier County and Prince William County in nearby Virginia. Tangent Haynes is suspected of shooting Brent Hayward, 33, in the head at a Northeast D.

C. gas station on August 12. Hayward was found dead by authorities after they arrived at the scene, where one other victim was injured and transferred to a hospital for treatment.

Haynes was later apprehended on September 6 in Manassas, Virginia, and escaped later that day. A friend of Hayward’s mother told CBS after Haynes’ escape that the mother was scared to leave her home, noting Haynes and his girlfriend lived in the same complex. Further Reading D.
