Will Smith recently apologised to Chris Rock on video after the March controversy (Picture : REX/Youtube/Will Smith) Will Smith is said to be feeling ‘less ashamed’ about striking comedian Chris Rock across the face after recently putting out a video apologising for the moment. The 53-year-old actor hit Chris live at the Oscars in March after the comedian made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from Alopecia – an auto-immune disease that leads to balding – having a shaved head. The shocking incident saw Will storm on stage to hit Chris following the offending comment before returning to his seat and yelling: ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth’ shortly before he collected his best actor gong for his role in King Richard.

Will returned to social media recently, however, to share a video in which he apologised to the former SNL comedian. In the clip, the Bad Boys star said he had been hurt both ‘psychologically and emotionally’ by the incident. Now, it’s been claimed since Will released the video apology in July, he’s feeling ‘less depressed’ about the debacle.

‘He feels less ashamed now and more comfortable being out and about in public again because he has and continues to do the work that needs to be done for himself, his wife, his family, his friends, his colleagues, his fans, The Academy, Chris, and Chris’ family. ’ The source went on to explain that Will, who shares son Jaden, 24, and daughter Willow, 21, with actress Jada, 50, who he married in 1997, as well as son Trey, 29, with Sheree Zampino, wanted to set a ‘good example’ for his children with the apology. ‘Will was so regretful of the situation and [what] he put his family in with all of the backlash, especially publicly.

He wanted to acknowledge his wrongdoings and apologise and take accountability. ‘He feels he answered some questions, said the things that needed to be said, and took ownership of his actions. Will wanted to make sure he set a good example for his kids and was adamant about handling the situation responsibly.

My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk. ‘I hate when I let people down. So it hurts, it hurts me psychologically and emotionally to know I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me.

It was recently reported that his ‘Q Score’ – an industry metric to assess public appeal – severely dipped. According to Variety, he had regularly ranked among the most popular 10 actors in the bi-annual survey, alongside household names including Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. However July’s poll, the first since the Oscars, saw him plunge to 39, which Henry Schafer, the executive VP of Q Scores, described as ‘a very significant and precipitous decline.

’ The publication reports that the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor’s negative rating soared from less than 10 to 26, which is much higher than the average negative Q Score of 16 or 17. Chris was not impacted by the ordeal, but Jada also suffered in her Scores, falling from 13 to six in the positive poll, and her negative number rose from 29 to 44. Metro.
