Layla Lupica, 9, was a passenger on a quad bike being driven by her dad along a popular trail in Langford Park at Jarrahdale, south-east of Perth when the vehicle rolled. Layla was thrown from the quad bike and died at the scene, despite desperate attempts to revive her.

As the Western Australian government vowed to review quad bike regulations, Layla’s grandfather Mike Rapaic broke his silence in the hope others will learn from the tragedy. WA Premier Roger Cook also issued a desperate plea. ‘I just think it’s a dreadful tragedy, and it must’ve been horrible for those who were on the scene and horrible for the family, and my heart goes out to them,’ he told reporters ‘This is a dreadfully tragic set of circumstances.

‘ The state government will now review quad bike regulations. ‘Quad bikes and other forms of off-road vehicles are great adventure apparatuses, but they need to be treated with a great deal of respect and care,’ Mr Cook said.
