When YouTuber Emily Canham took a shopping gamble by splurging on a John Lewis returns pallet she couldn’t believe what was inside. Many retailers use this method to offload unwanted stock to bargain hunters – but you’ll never know what’s inside until it arrives.
Among the items returned by customers that the content creator got at a reduced cost include a Shark air purifier, a Nespresso machine, a GHD hairdryer and her “favourite” GHD hair curler, which alone is worth what she paid for the entire box. Speaking on the GHD curler, she said: “It literally looks like it hasn’t been taken out the box and it also says it’s been tested, so I guess it works!” Some of the products had been unopened (Image: Emily Canham/YouTube) Return pallets sold by John Lewis are typically auctioned off and some products could be faulty, which is highlighted in a disclaimer.
While some items could need professional fixing, others may be perfectly fine and returned for other reasons. The Mirror reports that for less than ten percent of the RRP of what’s inside, Emily, as well other YouTubers and TikTokers, will video their “unboxing” and share what they got – from coffee machines to hair electricals and Dyson’s. As well as the hair products, Emily also excitedly pulled out a huge Nespresso box, “this has definitely been used,” she added, but didn’t seem to mind, with a Lavazza milk frother she said ‘retails for £69-ish’ and a DeLonghi coffee machine too.
