Got it! Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Officials in Atlanta vowed Thursday to boost security measures and crack down on any threats against the grand jurors who indicted former President Donald Trump on racketeering charges earlier this week, after a fringe website published the jurors’ names and addresses. All rights reserved. Key Facts In a statement, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said it’s aware of posts listing out the jurors’ information, vowing to work with federal, state and local law enforcement to “track down the origin of the threats. ” The office said it is working with law enforcement to “respond quickly to any credible threat and to ensure the safety of those individuals who carried out their civic duty.

” The grand jury members’ names were listed publicly on Trump’s unsealed indictment Monday night, and on Wednesday, the non-partisan research organization Advance Democracy found the personal addresses of the jury members were posted on multiple social media sites, including a fringe website known for extremist content. Other posts targeted the jurors directly, including on mainstream platforms including Facebook, TikTok and X, previously known as Twitter, causing “Civil War” to trend Wednesday afternoon, according to the Advance Democracy report. Crucial Quote “It’s becoming all too commonplace to see everyday citizens performing necessary functions for our democracy being targeted with violent threats by Trump-supporting extremists,” Daniel Jones, a former FBI investigator who founded Advance Democracy, told Forbes .

Tangent The threatening rhetoric posted online about the grand jury members is far from the first instance of violent threats in the wake of Trump’s legal issues. Earlier on Thursday, a woman in Texas was arrested and charged with threatening to kill U. S.

District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is overseeing the federal election interference case. The incidents follow threats made against adult film star Stormy Daniels —who is at the center of Trump’s indictment in New York over alleged hush money payments before the 2016 election—as well as the shipment of a suspicious white powder to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where the case is set. Key Background Trump was indicted earlier this week on 13 felony counts over his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the state of Georgia—the 2024 presidential candidate’s fourth indictment this year, including another brought last month by Department of Justice Special Counsel Jack Smith that also stemmed from his efforts to overturn his loss to President Joe Biden.

The Georgia indictment alleges Trump’s actions constituted racketeering, solicitation of the violation of oath by a public officer and conspiracy to impersonate a public officer, over his so-called fake electors scheme. Trump insisted he committed no wrongdoing and blasted prosecutors for bringing charges during the 2024 presidential election cycle, accusing them of “election interference. ” What To Watch For Trump and his 18 co-defendants in the Fulton County case have until August 25 to turn themselves in, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said on Monday.

Trump is also set for an August 28 hearing to set a trial date in the federal election interference case—Smith proposed a January 2 start date, which Trump objected to, saying the trial should come after the 2024 election. The charges against Trump from all four cases could result in upwards of 700 years in prison, if he is convicted on all counts.
