Following Oct 4, 2023, 05:54pm EDT | Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Lalo, the baby gear company that makes a sleek high chair, a play table and more, just launched a subscription toy service for children. The new Play Boxes launched October 4 and feature toys that grow with your child. Each box boasts variety of items crafted from wood and other sturdy materials, with the kits designed to be enjoyed by kids within a set age range: 0 to 12 weeks, 3 to 4 months and subsequent brackets up to 22 to 24 months.

The concept isn’t new with companies like KiwiCo, Lovevery and many others offering subscription toy and activity boxes for kids of all ages. The new Play Boxes from baby gear company Lalo deliver age-appropriate toys to babies and toddlers. The box for newborns to 12 weeks of age, for example, includes high-contrast vision cards, sage green muslin cloths, a small book, wooden blocks with numbers and the word “months” that can be used to take milestone photos of your baby and more accessories. As kids progress, the boxes get more advanced. The 16 to 18-month-old box has four separate sets of items: wooden food that can be “sliced” with the included play knife, bowls of color-coordinated wood coins for sorting, a simple puzzle and mini cars on a multi-level wooden race track.

Each kit comes with a Play Guide for parents, which was created by Lizzie Assa , an educator and the brand’s head of play and development and founder of The Workspace for Children, to provide advice on how to use the items in each box to encourage baby’s development. Lalo The Play Box: 5-6 Months Buy From Lalo Boxes for babies up to 12 months cost $80 a piece when you subscribe and $90 if you purchase them separately. The kits for children 13 months and up are $120 each when you subscribe and $135 individually.

For babies up to 12 months, the boxes ship every two months to stay on pace with their development. Once they hit a year, boxes ship every three months. Shipping is also free for subscribers.

Lalo The Play Box: 16-18 Months Buy From Lalo The subscription toy market is admittedly crowded, but Lalo cofounder Greg Davidson believes his company is providing something unique that parents are craving. “We surveyed over 100,000 parents over the past two years about what products they wanted to see next from Lalo, and toys, wooden toys and, more specifically, a toy subscription kept showing up in the top three,” he says. “We took that to heart and got to work to create a line of toys the Lalo way.

” Fellow cofounder Michael Wieder stresses the importance of the included Play Guides for parents. “Parent-led learning can be intimidating, but Lizzie’s guidance makes it easy and takes the pressure off,” Wieder says. Sustainability is big for this brand, too—Lalo worked with PlanToys, which is known for its zero-waste practices, and created a special Re-Play program where owners can donate their boxes once their child has outgrown them to pass the kit on to a family in need.

Lalo plans to continue to expand its offerings in the future. “You will see lots of content beyond just the Play Guides coming from Lalo to help parents feel confident in their little one’s growth,” Wieder says.
