The Guardian reports that the transfer will cost Spurs $60 million plus add-ons, matching Everton’s asking price for their star player. Those add-ons would take the total transfer fee to $72 million, and will go some way towards helping Everton balance their books in order to avoid Financial Fair Play issues .

The 25-year-old was Everton’s top scorer last season with 11 goals in all competitions and was their only player to reach double figures. He played an important part in the club’s relegation battle towards the end of the season, which saw them threatened with the drop to the second tier of English football for the first time since 1951. They are now going into their first full season under manager Frank Lampard who joined the club midway through the 2021-22 campaign following the sacking of Rafa Benitez .

The club were dragged into a relegation scrap before an impressive showing from their fans galvanised the club and saw them win enough games towards the end of the season to remain in the top flight. This, plus his quality and goal return, mean he will be difficult, though not impossible, to replace, and it will be a big test of the club’s recruitment setup under new director of football Kevin Thelwell.

He’s able to play across the front three though is most effective coming in from the left—a position currently occupied by Son Heung-min in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. The new signing could also ease the burden on Harry Kane when required as he often played the central forward role during his time for Everton, and has also done so for Brazil. His arrival adds quality depth in both of these positions for Conte.

He could also be an option on the right it needed or as part of a front two if the Italian boss tweaks his formation slightly to 3-4-1-2. Fellow Londoners Chelsea were also in the running for Richarlison and competed with Spurs for his signature, but Everton agreed a deal with the North London club on Thursday morning. The Toffees will now be in the market for signings of their own to bolster a forward line which just became considerably weaker.
