Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Steam Charts Steam In an industry that is often woefully opaque, Steam is going against the grain by revealing a treasure trove of data for analysis going forward. While sites like SteamDB and Steamcharts have been doing at least some of this for a while for playercounts, Steam has launched its own version of Steam Charts , an official variant that will now permanently show the top 100 highest earning and top 100 most played games on the service at any given time. It’s access to the most accurate playercount figures, though more interestingly is going to be the revenue list.
Even though exact dollar amounts are not shown, placement on the list still paints some clear pictures. Here are the top 10 lists for both categories as we speak, revenue and playercount: REVENUE Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Slime Rancher 2 Apex Legends Cyberpunk 2077 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Destiny 2 Lost Ark The Elder Scrolls Online Potion Permit Final Fantasy XIV Online PLAYERCOUNT Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 765,000 concurrent players DOTA 2 – 537,000 Apex Legends – 341,000 PUBG – 298,000 Lost Ark – 122,000 GTA 5 – 117,000 Naraka: Bladepoint – 100,000 Team Fortress 2 – 97,000 Wallpaper Engine – 83,000 Cyberpunk 2077 – 73,000 So, what “narratives” emerge from this early list here? It’s not exactly a huge shock to see Modern Warfare 2 on top here due to pre-orders of a massively popular, $70 game. But you will notice a number of free-to-play titles within the top ten, meaning they are raking in that money for microtransactions, season passes or expansions alone.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been in the top 100 for 400(!) weeks, indicating that may be much more of a sleeper hit than many give it credit for. Cyberpunk 2077 CDPR And of course the most recent surge story is Cyberpunk 2077, fresh off a hit anime, new patch, and half off sale, where it’s now the fourth highest earning game on Steam, wild for a single player game that was released almost two years ago.
It’s also in the top 10 most played list, and has been setting since-launch records for concurrent players almost every day this week. The rest of the most played list is more what I’d expect given that I monitor that regularly through the third part Steamcharts, and I’m not seeing many surprises there. In any case, this is a list I plan to monitor pretty closely, as stats this elaborate are pretty hard to come by in this overly secretive industry, where people often only share things when investors mandate it or they’re trying to brag.
