Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Blizzard just debuted its latest Overwatch 2 animated short and, boy, is the company’s cinematics team continuing to knock it out of the park with these. The short focuses on Kiriko, the game’s badass new support . While it doesn’t shed a ton of light on her character compared with what we already knew , it’s a gorgeous, affecting short in which Kiriko kicks a whole lot of butt (or, to be more specific, heads).
What we do learn is where the fox mask that Kiriko wears comes from. It’s a gift she receives from the granddaughter of one of her building’s residents while on her way home. After Kiriko returns to her apartment, she’s confronted by her mother, who wants her to come back home to train some more (Kiriko’s mother also trained Hanzo and Genji).
But their reunion is cut short by the Hashimoto clan. Kiriko teleports into action to protect her neighbor and his granddaughter — as well as Kanezaka — from the bad guys. Overwatch 2 hero Kiriko and her fox spirit Blizzard Entertainment Kiriko pops a few of her abilities, including her Kitsune Rush Ultimate (with an excellent moment featuring the granddaughter).
The short closes out with an emotional conversation between Kiriko and her mother, who slips in a pretty dang funny line right at the end. It’s a mostly terrific short that showcases the talents of Blizzard’s animators, even if the story is fairly slight. It’s a also little odd that Kiriko’s mother, seemingly a fierce warrior, hangs back and appears to watch the Hashimoto battle through a peephole.

Edgerunners worked wonders for the popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 , so an Overwatch Netflix show could help this game out as well. The short premiered at TwitchCon and it also marked the start of an Overwatch 2 Twitch Drops campaign, through which you can earn a Legendary Kiriko skin for free.
