Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Andor Disney Plus Hopefully you have heard by now that even if you have hated/ignored most of the Disney era of new Star Wars content, that Andor is something special . The series, which did not seem like a particularly compelling concept at first, a prequel to Rogue One, a prequel already itself, is actually absolutely fantastic, and its Force-free vision of the Rebellion and Empire is easily one of the best things we’ve seen out of this era of Star Wars. And yes, that includes the wildly popular Mandalorian.

Andor, meanwhile, is not remotely popular. All data tracking seems to indicate that it’s the lowest watched/talked-about Disney Plus Star Wars series by a wide margin, beneath, Mando, Boba Fett and even Obi-Wan Kenobi. It has no huge stars, no flashy lightsaber fights, and as such, it’s been a hard sell.

However, fans of Andor do not need to be worried about season 2. Disney committed to Andor for a fixed run of two, twelve episode seasons before season 1 even aired, using the locations they build out for two seasons, like an entire rebel city where much of the series is shot. Andor season 2 will start production on November 21 , according to showrunner Tony Gilroy.

We do not have a release date for season 2 yet, though early 2024 seems like a safe bet, given the timing here. Dan Gilroy and Beau Willimon are returning to help write season 2, and they’re part of the reason that season 1 has worked so well, so that’s great news. Hopefully they keep the exact same team in place, not just for Andor season 2 but for…literally anything they want to do next.

Gilroy not only co-wrote Rogue One, but he also wrote the original Bourne trilogy. He directed Michael Clayton as well, where you can obviously see some similar vibes from that movie in Andor here.

We have no indication about what Gilroy may be up to after Andor. He may want to move on but I mean, Disney Star Wars paychecks are large, and he has literally created what could be the best offering in this new era of the Star Wars universe. I would absolutely love to see Gilroy’s take on Jedi politics.

Not that I want more Skywalkers and Palpatines and flashy lightsaber fights, but rather I don’t think the nuances of the Jedi have really been explored all that well to date. This could theoretically be a High Republic era series, which we know Disney is going to start to push, beginning with The Acolyte, or I suppose something set with the Jedi Council in the prequel era. But yes, this is just my personal wish, and who knows what a new project might actually be.
