Got it! Until now. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a new Game of Thrones show is in the works, a Jon Snow-based spin-off set after the events of the main series, which would see the return of actor Kit Harrington in the role.
Such a show would be forging ahead past the source material, the 7-book series that George RR Martin has still is not even close to finishing (Winds of Winter any day now, right?), and the idea of going back to that timeline and freewheeling new stories raises the specter of just how bad the series got once Martin’s material ran dry and it was up to showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss to forge a path forward. That culminated in the absolutely lambasted season 8 of the series, which featured expensive, epic battles, but plot turns that nearly everyone disliked, including a bizarre finale that killed off a now fully evil Daeneyrs and made Bran Stark king. As for Jon Snow, he returned to the north to go live among the Wildlings with the wall fallen and the White Walkers defeated, despite technically having a claim to the Iron Throne.
A throne that no longer exists because a dragon burned it to a puddle. While the show killed off many major players during or near the finale, Jaime, Cersei, Littlefinger, Jorah, Theon, The Hound and Daenerys, there are plenty who could be seen again, Sansa, Arya, Tyrion, Sam, Tormund, Bran, Brienne, Davos, Gendry and plenty more.

I get the impression that actress Maise Williams, now 25, very wants to move away from the image of young Arya Stark, and perhaps she didn’t want to return.
Again, there are a bunch of other Game of Thrones spin-offs that are being or have been considered, even if many of them may not make it to air, and a few have already been axed. So far, we’ve heard about “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” “10,000 Ships,” “9 Voyages,” “Flea Bottom” and an animated series, but this one would represent the direct continuation of the main Game of Thrones storyline starring what was arguable one of the three main characters of the entire series (I’d consider Tyrion and Daenerys the other two). It is almost certain that former showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss would not be doing this Jon Snow show, as they’ve been busy with other projects, but still, it’s hard to erase just how much damage their season 8 and its finale did to Game of Thrones, and trying to pick up the pieces from that in a coherent way and start writing non-Martin material feels like an extremely tall order.
