The PSNI received a report from a member of the public who believed a driver may be under the influence of alcohol. It was later found that the males travelling in the vehicle had stolen a number of items from B&M in Ballynahinch. The vehicle was stopped in the Crossgar area and “a number of items believed to have been stolen were recovered and two males were arrested,” the force said in an update.

A third male fled the vehicle prior to Police arrival however was spotted by another member of the public and officers “caught up with him a short time later”. All three of the males have been assisting police with their enquiries in Custody and will be headed to court in the morning. The police asked anyone who was in Ballynahinch yesterday and “noticed a Toyota with several males on board acting suspiciously” to contact police on 101 and quote serial 1487 of 03/04/23.

READ NEXT: Suspected New IRA men tried to recruit active service unit in West Belfast, court told In a Facebook post sent on Tuesday (April 4) at 10:41pm, the force wrote: “Police would like to thank members of the public for their help in assisting them apprehend three suspects last night! “Police initially received a report from a concerned member of the public regarding a vehicle acting suspiciously in the Ballynahinch area in which they believed the driver may be under the influence of alcohol; it later came to light that the males travelling in the vehicle had stolen a number of items from B&M in Ballynahinch. “Thanks to the vigilance of the public this vehicle was later stopped in the Crossgar area and a number of items believed to have been stolen were recovered and two males were arrested. “A third male had made off from the vehicle prior to Police arrival however was spotted by another keen eye and Police caught up with him a short time later.
