The 66-year-old United legend was driving his blue £84,000 Mercedes S350d to Old Trafford when he was hit from behind by another vehicle. The collision caused damage to the boot and bumper of Robson’s car, and police were forced to close a lane whilst debris was cleared from the road at Princes Parkway.

Sportsmail understands Robson is fine despite the shock. Robson, who was heading to the game as part of his role as a club ambassador, could be seen standing on the grass embankment, dressed in official Manchester United suit colours whilst hugging a young boy and chatting to the police. There appeared to be no injuries occurred during the incident and Robson was later seen at the game, where his former side beat Everton 2-0 to keep up their bid to finish in the Premier League’s top four.
