CES 2024: This popular automaker is putting ChatGPT AI chatbot into its cars

Volkswagen announces integration of ChatGPT AI chatbot into IDA voice assistant in its vehicles at CES 2024. ChatGPT will be a standard feature in Volkswagen models from Q2 2024. The AI database in the IDA voice assistant will read out content to users while driving.

Volkswagen (VW) has announced that it is presenting the first vehicles that come with ChatGPT AI chatbot integrated into its IDA voice assistant , at CES 2024 .

The company will be the first volume manufacturer to offer Chat GPT as a standard feature from the second quarter of 2024 in many production vehicles, it said. In the future, customers will have an AI database in all Volkswagen models equipped with the IDA voice assistant that will read out content to users while they are driving. The chatbot will be available with the latest generation of infotainment in the following models: ID.

7, ID. 4, ID. 5, ID.

3, Tiguan, Passat and Golf. “Cerence Chat Pro from technology partner Cerence Inc. is the foundation of the new function, which offers a uniquely intelligent, automotive-grade ChatGPT integration,” the company said.

How ChatGPT integrates into VW cars The IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT in Volkswagen cars can be used to control the infotainment, navigation and air conditioning, or to answer general knowledge questions. AI will provide additional information in response to questions that go beyond this as part of its continuously expanding capabilities. “This can be helpful on many levels during a car journey: Enriching conversations, clearing up questions, interacting in intuitive language, receiving vehicle-specific information, and much more – purely hands-free,” the automaker added.

The company says that customers will not need to create a new account, install a new app or activate ChatGPT. The voice assistant is activated by saying “Hello IDA” or pressing the button on the steering wheel. IDA automatically prioritises whether a vehicle function should be executed, a destination searched or the temperature adjusted.

“If the request cannot be answered by the Volkswagen system, it is forwarded anonymously to AI and the familiar Volkswagen voice responds,” Volkswagen added. Privacy and security As per the company, ChatGPT will not gain access to any vehicle data; questions and answers are deleted immediately to ensure the highest possible level of data protection. It said that the feature also prioritises security.
