Dorsey joining the Mavericks is just a formality at this point. Multiple reports from European media indicated that Dallas was interested in signing Dorsey earlier this summer. His two-way deal will be his first NBA contract since 2019.

Dorsey has spent the last four years playing overseas. He started his Euroleague career with Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv in Israel in 2019. Most recently, he played for Olympiacos Piraeus in Greece for the 2021-22 season.

In both Euroleague and HEBA A1 play, he averaged 11. 8 points, 2. 3 rebounds and 1.

9 assists. In HEBA A1, he helped the club to the Greek League title and garnered Greek Cup MVP honors. Olympiacos also made the EuroLeague Final Four last season.

Known as a gifted shooter from the University of Oregon, where he played for two seasons before entering the NBA Draft, Dorsey shot 44% overall with Olympiacos. He also made 38. 7% of his three-point attempts.

The Atlanta Hawks selected Dorsey with the eleventh pick in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft. He spent the better part of two seasons with the Hawks. Atlanta traded Dorsey to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2019.

Memphis was the last NBA team for which he would play. In his two years in the league, he appeared in 104 games and averaged 6.

7 points, 2. 3 rebounds and 1. 3 assists.

He also had shooting averages of 38. 9% overall and 35% from deep. Now with Dallas, Dorsey has the opportunity to prove he can still compete at the NBA level.

However, most of his playing time will come with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ G League affiliate. League rules limit players signed to two-way contracts to a maximum of 50 games with their NBA team, spending the rest of their time in the G League. They are not eligible for the playoffs unless their NBA team converts them to a standard contract.

Next season, two-way players will earn approximately $502,079—half the league’s veteran’s minimum salary, which is projected to be $1,004,159 for the 2022-23 season. The Mavericks have one other two-way spot available. Dallas could fill it by signing Moses Wright.

Wright had a two-way contract with the Mavericks last season, eventually playing his way to a First Team All-G League selection with the Legends. He recently played with the Mavericks Summer League team in Las Vegas. Follow me on Twitter .
