Courtesy of HigherDOSE Katie Kaps and Lauren Berlingeri founded HigherDOSE in 2016 as the first infrared sauna destination in New York City. While revolutionizing the sauna concept, their locations quickly became coveted by a community passionate about their commitment to health and wellness, hooked on the benefits the experience provided.
This led to the development of innovative at-home products including the Infrared Sauna Blanket, PEMF Mat, and Red Light Face Mask, each with unique technologies that harness elements of nature to promote recovery, detoxification, and relaxation alike. “You couldn’t find an infrared sauna in New York if your life depended on it. I didn’t even know what an infrared sauna was, and I considered myself to be somewhat of a health and wellness expert,” shared Berlingeri.
“When I discovered the infrared sauna nine years ago, a doctor told me he had every single one of his clients use an infrared sauna. As I researched all the benefits that the infrared sauna provided I was blown away. From detoxing, brining down cortisol levels, skin benefits and burning calories, it is just so good for overall wellness.
I was personally blown away by the immediate benefits just after one session and didn’t understand why everyone in New York wasn’t doing this. When I met Katie I initially pitched her on this idea of infrared and fitness. ” Lauren Berlingeri and Katie Kaps, founders of HigherDOSE.
Courtesy of HigherDOSE Kaps and Berlingeri originally started off by installing infrared heating systems into yoga studios such as Y7 but it wasn’t feasible to scale. They pivoted to opening their first infrared spa in 2016 that drew in a big following of health and wellness influencers that turned the studio into an Instagrammable destination. Locations continued to open across the New York area in addition to expanding into Equinox.
As the demand for pop-up and event sauna’s, the pair had to think about a better way to lug a 500 pound sauna around. To meet that demand they created their own infrared sauna blanket. HigherDOSE’s Infrared Sauna Blanket.

We had to shut down all of our brick and mortar locations and it gave us a runway and time to then go on and launch the infrared PEMF mat. The following year we launched red light face mask, and now a full line of topicals, um, and ingestibles that compliment our wellness tech,” explained Kaps.
“We learned about PEMF in 201 and thought it would be a great recovery tool. At the same time we started hearing about red light so I feel like we got into the blanket first and then conceptually we had these categories that we knew we wanted to move into. We would deeply research these various technologies that were complementary to each other then find unique ways to design them better in away that we hadn’t seen made accessible for the consumer.
At the end of the day we want to create products that we want to see exist. ” HigherDOSE also invests time to educate on the benefits of the tools thye offer through various forms content from blog posts to social media, video and advertisement. “It’s really our job to be experts in this field to educate on why someone would need these technologies in their life.
We really choose technology that’s stood the test of time, has been really well researched, and is ultimately gentle and safe enough for everyone to use,” Kaps and Berlingeri shared.
