Hassan Jhangur, 23, of Whiteways Road, Sheffield, was arrested after the incident and has since been charged with murder and five counts of attempted murder. He remains in police custody but will appear in court today (Saturday).

Mr Marriot’s family described him as ‘a wonderful husband, dad, brother, uncle – and friend to many’ in an emotional statement. They said he devoted much of his life to helping others including at Sheffield College, Jubilee Foodbank and Debt Advice, Voluntary Action Sheffield, Community Money Advice (CMA) and as a trustee of MASKK (Manor and Castle After School and Kids Klubs). They continued: ‘The circumstances of his death, although tragic and unfathomable to us his family, show the sort of man he was – to go to help rather than to turn away.

It comes as tributes continued to mount for Mr Marriott, who has been described as a ‘Good Samaritan’ by police and was a much-loved member of his church, City Church in Sheffield. The church group ChristCentral, which includes City Church, said in a statement that everyone was ‘deeply shocked’ by Mr Marriott’s death. It said: ‘Chris died doing what so many will remember him for, helping others.
‘He had stopped to help an unconscious woman lying in the street and as he was providing first aid, a car collided with Chris, the woman and others. ‘Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with his wife, and their two young sons. This is an unbelievably awful situation and we are heartbroken for the family.

That’s our biggest concern now, for the family and how they move forward. ‘ Ms Keates said Mr Marriott had died in ‘truly tragic circumstances’, adding that he was ‘completely irreplaceable’ to the charity, which runs 180 face-to-face advice centres.
He worked as its IT manager since 2021 but had previously run one of the charity’s advice centres in Sheffield. Ms Keates said: ‘He understood it from the IT side and he understood it from the clients side too. ‘ Alison Norris, 58, a married mother of two, stopped to help an unconscious woman injured during a fracas following a wedding party in Burngreave, Sheffield, on Wednesday afternoon And she added: ‘His skill set was so complete and specialised.
‘ Mr Marriott’s brother-in-law Luke Tonge said on Facebook: ‘Our Chris was a kind man who loved his family and truly lived to help others – and our hearts are broken. ‘Please pray for my sister and their boys, and the family & friends who are grieving such an incalculable loss. ‘ Police confirmed that Mr Marriott was out for a post-Christmas walk with his family when he went to the aid of the injured woman.
Fellow Sheffield representatives rallied to pay tribute to midwife Ms Norris, who was injured stopping to help an unconscious woman during the fracas. Labour MP Clive Betts, whose Sheffield South East constituency includes Woodhouse, said: ‘I think Alison is a wonderfully kind and considerate person and she behaved in a selfless way thinking of others. ’ Ibrar Hussain, a former Labour councillor in Burngreave, said: ‘Alison put her life on the line to help others – she should be given a medal.
’ Another Labour source said: ‘Alison’s amazing – she always is. She just saw somebody lying in the road and went to help. ’ Ms Norris was yesterday back home and recovering but declined to comment to reporters.
