Muse will launch its latest album, “Will of the People,” as a limited-edition NFT on Polygon-powered platform Serenade on August 26. The world-famous British rock band will establish a premiere in the UK and Australian charts by releasing the first-ever, entirely NFT music album. Moreover, the release will only feature 1,000 copies available globally at £20 (around $24.
50) apiece. In return for their money, fans will get the band’s ninth studio album as a downloadable, high-res FLAC version. Each copy will also include the three Muse members’ digital signatures.
Furthermore, every buyer will get their name permanently listed on the album’s list of patrons. This is not the first time Muse has dipped its feet in the cryptosphere. In 2020, the band collaborated with CryptoKitties, another popular NFT project, to release a series of digital collectibles.
Muse on Serenade Muse’s much-anticipated “Will of the People” album will be available on Serenade, an “eco-friendly” platform enabling artists to release lucrative NFT-based projects. The platform runs on the Polygon blockchain and uses the network’s proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism to mint non-fungible tokens. The CEO of Serenade, Max Shand, commented on the future release: Muse have always had a great appetite for innovation and pushing the boundaries of how they deliver their music to fans, so using this technology to elevate the experience of their new album made a lot of sense.
The platform takes pride in a rare feature allowing users to create a crypto wallet before buying NFTs. This means that music fans don’t have to own a crypto wallet if they wish to purchase artwork in digital asset form. Furthermore, they can use their debit or credit cards to buy NFTs.
Alternatively, they can pay with Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH) if they link their wallets to Coinbase. Max Shand added: All Serenade NFTs are minted on the Polygon [chain] because we value its affordability and eco-friendliness. On Serenade, we bear gas fees on behalf of all users—artists and fans—because we want to replicate the frictionless shopping experience that today’s customers are used to.
Polygon allows us to do this at scale. The fan then has the option to store their NFT in their Serenade collection or transfer it to an external wallet of their choice. NFTs Taking Over the UK Top-40 Charts One of the UK’s most prestigious music institutions, the Official Charts Company (OCC), allowed NFT albums to enter the race for its UK Top 40 charts.
The historic event occurred in April 2021, when the Amazons, a UK indie rock band, launched a digital NFT box set. The product was available in only 100 copies and featured unique, never-before-seen pictures of the band members. Martin Talbot, the CEO of the OCC, recognizes NFTs as a milestone in the history of entertainment.
As such, the upcoming Muse album will set the trend for future releases. He commented: There has been loads of noise about NFTs being the future of music, the future of entertainment, the future of ownership. On the other hand, Serenade sees “Will of the People” as only one of the many NFT music releases on the platform.
The company’s CEO, Max Shand, added: Following the August 26 Muse release, we will be working with a number of emerging and iconic artists to use the digital pressing format to release albums, EPs, and singles to fans, with a focus on the music. It seems that the NFT-based music revolution is only in its early days. Besides Muse, other prestigious artists have forayed into this sector.
For example, iconic hip-hop musician Snoop Dogg announced his intentions to launch an NFT label. Soon, music fans may meet for concerts and album releases not in traditional record shops but in the web3. 0 space.
