Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro Prakhar Khanna After a three-year hiatus, OnePlus is back with a bang in the flagship TV segment. The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro packs meaningful upgrades over the predecessor – a bigger display, a new design with a fixed speaker, and plenty of features to take advantage of.
But with advancements comes a higher price tag, which is still quite competitive. If you are looking for a 65-inch QLED TV for consuming content or playing games on the PS5, the new OnePlus TV might be just what you need. OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro review: Design OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro Prakhar Khanna The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro packs an all-new design.
Gone are the days of the slide-out soundbar, which I appreciated at the time. But it has made way for a big Horizon Soundbar with metal finish at the bottom of the TV. It looks classy to me, and enhances the overall look of the TV, in my opinion.
The refined design also means the wobbly stand makes way for a better and more solid base, which comes in the box. However, if you need to hang it on the TV panel, you’d need to contact support people to bring the wall mount to set it up. It doesn’t cost extra.
The thin bezels make for an immersive experience. I like the build and look of the Q2 Pro better than the Q1 Pro, and appreciate the overall quality. It is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. In my experience, I’ve noticed 3GB RAM to be enough for Android TVs but the Q2 Pro takes a good 10-second time to start. I’d have hoped it to be quicker.
There are three HDMI 2. 1 ports at the back that support variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low latency mode (ALLM), and 48Gbit bandwidth. Most LG TVs support VRR and ALLM features as they allow for a smooth and lag-free gaming experience on the PS 5 or Xbox Series X.
The TV delivers 4K at 120Hz without any issues. The first HDMI port also supports eARC, which means you can get higher-quality audio from your TV to a soundbar or AV receiver. It can deliver 24bit/192kHz uncompressed data streams.
Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5. 0, an Ethernet port, and two USB 2. 0 ports.
OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro review: Display OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro Prakhar Khanna The company has gone from 55-inch to 65-inch with the OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro. It goes up to 500 nits in regular use and 1200 nits for HDR content. The display supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The QLED panel includes a full-array local dimming with 120 dimming zones, which kicks in on demanding scenes. First things first, you get motion smoothing enabled out of the box. You are better off turning it off via the Ultra smooth motion menu.
You get eight picture modes including HDR10+ and AI picture. The HDR10+ mode boosts the colors with more brightness to offer a livelier look. I switched to the movie mode for TV shows and movies.
The default settings aren’t the best on the Q2 Pro. For instance, I wasn’t happy with the contrast levels and saturation on the greens. I played around with settings for a while to tune it to my liking.
Once you figure it out, you are greeted with an amazing display. Streaming Dolby Vision content on Netflix is pure joy. You’ll enjoy consuming SDR content as well.
The Q2 Pro’s display offers vibrant colors and overall a good experience. I didn’t notice any major blooming effects either. OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro review: Sound OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro speaker Prakhar Khanna The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro comes equipped with a 70W integrated soundbar where you get a 30W subwoofer built into the chassis, which is located at the back.
As for the integrated soundbar, you get two full-range drivers and one tweeter on each side. OnePlus has also collaborated with Dynaudio to tune the sound experience. I love the sound of the Q2 Pro speaker system – so much so that I’ve been using it to trigger Spotify and simply listen to songs rather than watch something on the big screen.
You can use the Bluetooth Stereo feature to pair your phone with the TV and just use the soundbar for playing music. The audio quality is top-notch. I could hear each instrument playing in the Chaiyya Chaiyya song clearly.
There is a good amount of bass and dialogues in TV shows are clear as well. It offers a room-filling sound. The Q2 Pro is one of the few TVs I can recommend you to use without needing an external soundbar.
OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro review: Software and remote OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro remote Prakhar Khanna The new OnePlus TV runs Google TV based on Android 11. Streaming services like Prime Video, YouTube, and Hotstar come pre-installed, while you can download other services via the Play Store. The recommendation algorithm isn’t the best here.
It’s a hit and a miss. Sometimes it shows stuff that I’d like to watch next but other times, this isn’t true. However, it is mostly a smooth experience despite facing a few jitters in the UI – not on daily basis.
The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro is packed with features. It allows you to use your phone as a gamepad to lay games on the TV. You can leave family members a message directly on the TV using the memo board feature.
You also get MultiCast 2. 0 to cast the screen of up to four mobile devices to the TV simultaneously. It works well with OnePlus phones but casting a video via the iPhone is a terrible experience because the video plays at a frame rate lower than that of an e-ink display.
But if you are using an Android phone, you are good. Plus, you can use NFC Cast to mirror content from your phone to the TV. The Q2 Pro remote uses plastic as its build material, like most remotes.
I didn’t find myself looking for a button that wasn’t there. I’m mostly using YouTube and Prime – both have their buttons alongside Netflix and Hotstar. The Google Assistant button is easy to access as well.
Overall, I didn’t have a problem with getting used to the remote. OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro review: Verdict OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro Prakhar Khanna The gorgeous 65-inch-inch QLED display with HDMI 2. 1 ports make the OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro a very good choice for anyone who wants to play games in 4K at 120Hz on the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
You should go for it if you want a big TV that offers amazing picture quality and is packed with features. There are cheaper alternatives available from Hisense but the UI isn’t great there. If you opt for the same size in OLED, that’d be very expensive.
The Q2 Pro is a very balanced TV for the price, and it is definitely worth it. OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro price and availability The Q2 Pro is available only in India. It is priced at Rs 99,999 (around $1,205) and will go on sale in India starting March 10 via OnePlus’s website, Amazon, and Reliance Digital stores.
It comes in a single 65-inch screen size. You get a one-year warranty on the TV. Follow me on Twitter or LinkedIn .
