The Oppo Find N3 is built identically to its sister model, the OnePlus Open — a foldable high-end smartphone — but this version is primarily intended for the Asian market. As a result, the Oppo foldable won’t see an official US release and will instead have to be imported. You can currently find it online for around US$1,250.

The successor to the Oppo Find N2 primarily focuses on camera quality. Its main lens (including Hasselblad branding) has received the new 1/1. 43-inch Sony Lytia-T808 sensor with stacked-pixel technology.

In theory, this promises quite a lot for a foldable smartphone. In contrast to the Find 2 with its 18:9 outer panel, the phone’s successor features a different aspect ratio. The Oppo Find N3’s 6.

31-inch cover display has a 20:9 aspect ratio, leading to the phone appearing much more square when it is folded open. The flexible panel is protected by special Schott UTG glass and the front panel has an unnamed nanocrystal glass installed. The 7.

82-inch panel has a display-to-surface ratio of 89. 8 per cent. As a result of the Oppo phone’s installed alert slider, its similarities to its corporate brother — OnePlus Open — become pretty clear.

In contrast to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 with an IPX8 rating, the Find N3 isn’t quite as protected against the elements with its IPX4 rating. This means it isn’t possible to submerge the phone in water. In turn, the foldable Oppo smartphone is much slimmer, measuring under 12 millimetres in thickness.

Its build quality is excellent and folding open the hinge shows its high-end nature. However, the competition (such as the Galaxy Z Fold5) feels a little more stable beyond 90 degrees. Our test sample’s UFS-4.

0 storage has an available capacity of 932 GB — its internal storage cannot be expanded. The Oppo Find N3 features NFC, Bluetooth 5. 3, USB-OTG, Miracast as well as USB 3.

1 including wired image output. In our copying test using a connected M2 SSD (Samsung 980 Pro), the phone’s USB port achieved a transfer rate of 190 MB/s, which is notably below what is possible for this USB port. However, the foldable supports the exFAT file system and NTFS, which is preferred by Microsoft systems.

The Oppo Find N3 comes with Android 13 and the in-house software ColorOS 13. 2 installed. During the test period, the operating system’s latest security patch was from September 2023, and is to be supplied with updates until at least 2028.

According to Oppo, the foldable will receive Android upgrades for four generations. As Color OS is only designed for the Asian market, the Find N3 only supports English and Chinese as languages and it doesn’t support the Google PlayStore straight out of the box. As a result, you will have to download it from external sources.

The Find N3 is equipped with WiFi 7 and in our test using the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 as a reference router, it achieved very high transfer rates within the 5-GHz frequency — up to 1,800 MBit/s. A connection below 6 GHz was not possible in our test. These high data rates also remained pretty stable throughout the test — at least for the received data we measured.

In addition to fast Wi-Fi, the Oppo phone also connects quickly to the 5G mobile network. In contrast to the LTE frequencies, which are missing bands 28 and 32, no compromises have to be made with the 5G bands. In order to evaluate its location services in practical use, we took the foldable smartphone with us on a bike trip alongside a Garmin Venu 2 to compare.

The Oppo Find N3 located well during our GPS test, meaning we only noted small deviations from the actual route we took when looking at it in detail. The foldable phone from Oppo has two available slots for nano SIM cards, meaning it supports dual SIM as well as VoLTE, eSIM and WLAN calling. In quiet surroundings, call quality is decent and the loudspeaker function allows for clear communication with the person on the other end of the call.

The back camera package that Oppo offers for its foldable doesn’t have to shy away from its foldable competitors. Its 48-MPix main camera with OIS can’t keep up with the current camera elites, on the other hand. The Oppo phone is missing some sharpness and its white balance isn’t the best, either.

We would also have expected more from the Sony LYT-T808’s stacked-pixel technology in low-light conditions. However, its photos taken in dark surroundings are still on a decent level. In controlled lighting conditions, the Find N3 showed very good color depiction values.

The phone’s main camera is expanded with the help of a 64-MPix tele lens with 3x lossless zoom, as well as a 48-MPix ultra-wide angle camera. Both lenses have quite a soft focus, meaning the base photo sharpness could do with being a little better. In particular, we would have expected more from its periscope lens at low zoom levels (< 5x).

Buyers of the Oppo Find N3 can look forward to an extensive scope of delivery. The package includes a modular 65-watt power supply, a data/charging cable, a protective case, a SIM needle as well as some accompanying information. Our loaner, TradingShenzhen, also included an EU adapter for us as we needed this where our test was carried out, however, this doesn’t belong to the phone’s standard scope of delivery.

The device has a 12-month warranty. Our test device from TradingShenzhen also came with the option to send the Find N3 to a German address in the case of a warranty claim. Inputs on the 6.

31-inch external display, as well as on the foldable 7. 82-inch panel, are implemented accurately and responsively right into the corners of the touchscreen. The linear vibration motor provides nice haptic feedback.

A protective film is installed on both screens straight out of the box. The crease on the inner display is barely noticeable compared to a Galaxy Z Fold5 and is only noticeable on very close inspection in everyday use. The phone’s fingerprint sensor is integrated into the on/off button and it unlocks the foldable reliably and quickly.

It also features a rather insecure 2D face recognition, which is based on a FaceUnlock function using the front and inside camera. This also works in daylight. The 7.

82-inch LTPO 3. 0 flex display on the inside of the Find N3 has a resolution of 2,440 x 2,268 pixels and a dynamic refresh rate of between 1 and 120 Hz, according to the datasheet. However, based on the system data readout, the screen’s refresh rate remains permanently at 120 Hz, except for when running certain apps (60 Hz), such as the camera application.

In our measurement, the Oppo phone achieved a peak brightness of 1,382 cd/m² (APL18). We measured around 100 cd/m² less with an all-white display. Its 6.

31-inch front panel with a refresh rate of 10 to 120 Hz (manufacturer’s specification) can’t quite reach the brightness values of the main screen with 1,077 cd/m² (white display) and 1,275 cd/m² (APL18). Here too, the system outputs a minimum refresh rate of 60 Hz. Due to both screens’ OLED technology, the Oppo Find N3 is not spared from PWM flickering.

At a low brightness level (< 50 per cent), this occurs at a constant 240 Hz on the inner display; if the panels' brightness increased, we measured around 460 to 480 Hz. We noted 1,440 Hz on the external panel. We examined the inner panel's color calibration — which also supports Dolby Vision — using the Calman analysis software.

Using the “natural” profile, the sRGB color space is controlled and also largely covered. According to the manufacturer, the Find N3 also supports the larger DCI-P3 color space. Our measured DeltaE values in sRGB indicate a slight deviation in colors (1.

5) and grayscale (2. 0). The Oppo Find N3 is well equipped for outdoor use.

Even in direct sunlight, you can easily read from the screen thanks to its intense brightness. Its viewing-angle stability is also good and only very flat angles lead to some loss of brightness. The Oppo Find N3’s surface temperatures may have been low during our measurements, however, it ended the Burnout quickly under full load (CPU + GPU) due to overheating — this means we were only able to determine the waste heat under reduced conditions (CPU).

The 3DMark stress tests were also ended prematurely for the same reason and we weren’t able to collect a result. The Find N3 has stereo loudspeakers whose sound quality boasts even mids with a hint of bass. The trebles are also balanced, but there is a noticeable drop in super-high tones.

If you want to play music externally, you can use the phone’s wired USB-C port, while Bluetooth 5. 3 is also available. The Oppo Find N3’s power consumption values are inconspicuous, but its power consumption in idle mode is not a virtue of the foldable phone.

Its 4,805-mAh battery can be recharged in around 50 minutes from empty using the 65-watt charger included with the device. Wireless charging is not supported. In our WLAN test with an adjusted display brightness of 150 cd/m2, the Oppo phone and its 7.

82-inch flex display achieved runtimes of almost 14. 5 hours. With its small external screen, the Find N3 tuckers out after 947 minutes.

The Oppo Find N3 is a successful foldable which, in comparison to the top dog Galaxy Z Fold5 , does without a notable crease. In everyday use, the foldable smartphone’s flexible OLED display also boasts precise calibration and it is super bright. It’s a bit of a shame that Oppo has changed the predecessor’s aspect ratio to be more “mainstream”, with the new model having a 20:9 outer display.

As a result, it has lost its unique selling point. The added value brought by the main display’s rather square aspect ratio will entirely depend on your own personal use. The Oppo Find N3 is a great smartphone for foldable enthusiasts.

If you are impacted by import restrictions surrounding the Find N3 (software, warranty etc), then the OnePlus Open might be a better choice for you. This is the global version of this smartphone from BBK. However, the Honor Magic V2 and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 could also be exciting alternatives with their slightly thinner build.

The Oppo Find N3 can be found as an import device on Amazon for US$1,249. .
