[+] the Netflix Top 10 charts. Netflix Thanks to Netflix’s NFLX Top 10 charts, we can gain a pretty good idea of how movies and shows are performing on a day-by-day basis. And if those charts are an indication of anything, then it’s become very clear that the third season of The Umbrella Academy didn’t perform nearly as well as Season 2.

To be fair, the second season set quite the standard. Back in 2020, The Umbrella Academy remained on the Top 10 charts between July 31 and September 11—that’s 43 consecutive days. Two years ago, that ranked amongst the best streaks Netflix had seen, rivaling streaks from shows like Ozark, Tiger King, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Outer Banks .

On top of that, the second season of The Umbrella Academy had put together a 14-day streak in the #1 position, making it the second Netflix program to ever do that after Tiger King ’s massive 27-day stronghold earlier in the year. 2022 spells a different story for The Umbrella Academy , however. Today marks the second day in a row that The Umbrella Academy has failed to appear on the Top 10.

So while the third season did enjoy an eight-day opening in the #1 spot, the fourth season of Stranger Things reclaimed the top position before long. And from there, The Umbrella Academy slowly fell off the charts—before exiting completely yesterday. That means the third season of The Umbrella Academy was on the Top 10 charts from June 23 through July 27—only 34 days.

That’s nine days shy of season two’s monstrous run. While Season 2’s streak ranked amongst the best ever on Netflix at the time, Season 3’s streak doesn’t even crack the Top 30. Yes, Season 3 didn’t appear on the charts as much as Season 2. But we also don’t know how many hours of watch time Season 2 racked up two years ago. Netflix didn’t start to reveal watch time until recently, so we know for sure that Season 3 compiled 301.

85 million hours of watch time. For all we know, Season 2 fared better because the competition wasn’t as stiff. But, honestly, that argument is a bit of a long shot.

Nine days is quite a bit of time. And the competition at the moment ( Alone , All American, Resident Evil, The UnXplained ) has been a bit lighter than the competition from two years ago ( Shameless, Lucifer, Cobra Kai, Away ). So it appears as though the third season of The Umbrella Academy just didn’t hit like Season 2.

Perhaps the show lost its momentum in all the Stranger Things hype. But for now, fans will have to look forward to Season 4 and hope for a stronger return. Follow me on Twitter .
