A car ploughed through the glass frontage of a college sports centre this afternoon – prompting structural engineers to make sure the building was sound. Emergency services raced to Solihull College earlier today, February 17. Miraculously, nobody was seriously hurt in the incident.

The driver of the car emerged unscathed while another woman suffered cuts to her head after shattered glass went flying. West Midlands Fire Service said it had called for engineers before helping to remove the vehicle. The terrifying smash happened shortly after lunchtime.

On arrival, we found one vehicle had come to rest approximately 10 metres inside the reception area of a sports centre. “Nobody was trapped and one woman was given a precautionary check by West Midlands Ambulance Service. ” An area was quickly blocked off due to the large amount of broken glass, the spokesperson added.

After helping two women and securing the car, emergency workers refused to go any further as they were uncertain the building was sound. Miraculously, nobody was seriously hurt in the incident. The spokesperson went on: “We made the vehicle safe and advised staff at the premises to request a structural engineer before any plan to remove the vehicle could be drawn up.

The car had gone through the glass frontage of the sports centre reception and came to rest against a lift. “The car came to rest on four wheels. One woman was out of the vehicle before we arrived and was given checks by the ambulance service.

Another woman inside the building suffered a minor cut from glass and we understand she was being taken to hospital. ” A structural engineer later made a “full assessment” of the building before the vehicle was eased out with the help of large airbags. The Fire Service spokesperson confirmed the reception area had been deemed safe and firefighters left shortly afterwards.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 11. 53am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a building on Blossomfield Road in Solihull. One ambulance and two paramedic officers attended the scene.
